Hi,
Just to follow up - I spoke to Johndg (original poster), and he says that the EGR motor cleaning didn't reliably fix the problem.
Eventually had to replace the EGR motor. So I'm going to see if I can find a lower cost open compared to the dealership.
Maybe order online...
He also suggested that a decat should be done ASAP - his friends Pajero was very blocked up, which may have led to the EGR problems. He says it also runs much better after the de cat.
Anyone know where I can have the cats internals removed in Cape Town?
Cheers,
Greg

Re: EGR Engine Light Pajero Gen 4
Hello Greg_SA
We took the car to Powerflow and they disconnected the exhaust after the cat and manually removed the catalytic material from inside the box with a long pipe or screwdriver. I'm sure this is a DIY job. There were 2 cats on the Gen 4 , one after the turbo and one further along the exhaust. I'm not sure what the lifespan of the cats are but i would say its safer to remove them after 100 000KM to avoid the additional back pressure damaging the EGR valve and exhaust manifold.
Good Luck.

Re: EGR Engine Light Pajero Gen 4
Awesome, thanks.
My Pajero only has one CAT - just after the turbo.
There seems to be 2 versions, based on the emission regulations.
Euro Spec 3 - One Cat just after turbo.
Euro Spec 4 - Two Cats (one after exhaust, and one under car).
See the diagram - Part number 3 has two version - one with CAT, one straight pipe.

Just an update - dealers price for EGR (part number 1582A037) is just over R6000 (inc. VAT). Also, no local stock - 21 working days from Japan
Fedex from a Denso accredited shop in Thailand (that I have bought from before) to my door R2600. Will probably be charged import duties and VAT still. But still significantly cheaper.

I am currently in Kruger park and again got the EGR error code on mine so a new stepper motor is probably on my horizon as well. I would be keen on a group buy if you go ahead.
CATS
PS I decatted a few kms ago by the way and the engine does seem to run easier but diesel fumes is definately more pungent and you can hear the turbo whistle much clearer on idling.

Hi CATS,
I've already ordered the EGR.. should be arriving any day now.
When you're back, I can give you all the details of the supplier.
I'm also keen to do the decat ASAP.

Re: EGR Engine Light Pajero Gen 4
Just an update...
EGR arrived in a week. Fitted it, and cleared the codes, and no longer get a CEL.
However, the Pajero has been down on power for a while and this didn't fix it. It doesn't show any other codes So I'm not sure what the problem is.
It is going to Mitsubishi tomorrow, to see it they can figure it out.
