Flatspot

Sun Jun 03, 2018 11:05 am

Hi All.
The whole of the summer my Pajero 1998 3.5 really treats me well, morning start and idle perfect.
Now with winter, my car seems to have a flat spot when driving off when the engine is still a bit cold.
This flat just occurs when I go over humps and bumps in the road. Last year winter the exact same story in the mornings.
But when the vehicle reach working temp she performs just wonderful. I am fitted with a unichip and did not calibrate the system in a while, not sure if the problem is there? On the other hand, the problem should persist summer or winter if it's the chip?
Can anyone maybe guide me as to where and what to look at please.
Thanking you in advance.
Ps. Maybe I am long due for an upgrade :)

A cold engine needs more fuel. Have the fuel pressure tested. Could be the fuel pump that is on its way out.

Thank you very much Peter.
I scrolled through the vehicle service records. I don't see any replacement fuel pump from the Mechanical Technician side.
Therefore it's worth a try and have it changed either way I will benefit.
Once again, thank you.

Thanks for the feedback Peter.
I will definitely have the fuel pump checked out and have it replaced.

Yes I saw your year model and together with symptoms it is quite likely. I am not sure where you are based but check out different suppliers. Once it is out they can compare and get a match for you.

Hi Peter.
Just an update on the Pajero.
You were right the fuel pump was on its way out.
Luckily I do have a complete spare (rebuilt ) engine in my shed.
The Technician fitted the spare fuel pump. All good now, the car seem to be more responsive now.
Thanks again Peter.
Hope I will be able to give you support some day.
