Spark Plugs

Mon Jan 14, 2019 11:00 am

Good morning All

I am a new owner of an Old GDI. 2000 Exceed with about 130 000km on the clock.
This being my 1st Pajero is nice and testing at the same time. Loved the 1st 10000km in the car but now the bugs are starting to get in the way.
I fitted a imported engine with about 80 000km in place of the old engine that had major problems on.
I have a starting problem at the moment. Cannot start it although we cannot get any ECD errors.
Machanic suggested replacing the Spark plugs.
I would like to start there but have nbo idea which to fit to this engine as the vehicle came without a service book.
I could find from other forums the following NGK plugs.
Long life plugs:

Platinum - PFR6J-11

Iridium - IFR6J-11
Please can someone advise what is best to use.

Thank you
Gerrit :?: :?: :?: :?:

Hi,

These are the plugs recommended for the 3.5 (non GDI) engine. I assume that's the one you have.

NGK: PFR5J-11(4642), BKR5EGP, IFR5E11, BKR5EIX-11
Denso: IK16, SK16PR-A11,

Not sure if GDIs have a different Heat no., but in case it will replace NGK 5 ->6, and Denso 16->20
I advice not to install regular copper plugs better to use Iridiums for longevity since changing the plugs requires removal of the inlet manifold, so it's not a 15 min. job.

Last time I got Denso's new IK16TT which are Twin Tip Iridium ones. You won't find them in the manual since it is a new product and were not available when they printed the manual.
