Whistling sound when cold.
2005 3.2 DI D SWB (308,000 km on clock). Please can someone assist, when the engine is cold (early morning start) there is a whistling sound that lasts for about a minute or two then goes away. Thereafter for the rest of the day no sound even after the the car has stood for a few hours, its only when the engine is "Cold"...

Re: Whistling sound when cold.
Immediatly check your pulley that the fan belt runs on. The main big one. It has a rubber damping inside which fail over time and then the pulley start rubbing on the engine cover. It starts like a normal belt squeal, especially in winter. A common problem at that type of kms. If left to self destruct it will eventually grind a hole in the engine cover.
