Gen 2 Pajero Manual Gearbox Oil Check

Wed Aug 15, 2018 12:15 pm

Hi guys.
I'm new to the Pajero family with my 1998 Pajero Shorty.
I'm no mechanic, but the sole purpose of this car is to teach myself do do the things myself.
It's a very expensive tinker toy, but I'm enjoying every bit of it.

I'd like to know if anyone can please tell me if there's a way to check my gearbox oil level?

It's a Manual Gearbox, but I have no idea which gearbox it is as the previous owner has had the gearbox replaced. He mentioned something about a Colt.
If there's a way of checking, can someone please point me in the right direction?

The reason to why the previous owner replaced the gearbox is, because apparently they cooked the original one due to running dry.
So to ensure that I don't do the same, I'd like to check it regularly without taking it to a mechanic every time.

I know I'll have to have the gearbox reconditioned somewhere in the future, as it seems that the 3rd gear synchro is shot(Yes, I googled. That's what everything is pointing to).
