Fix in progress. Ching had to build a new 'lip'. The frame was very badly rusted.

Re: Rust in the sunroof frame
Glad this post is alive again - I still have not fixed mine either... thought I would find a decent second hand one.
Does anyone know, if the Gen3 and Gen4 SWB sunroof glass is the same part number?

Re: Rust in the sunroof frame
Greetings.
It is a problem with the sunroofs on the Pajeros.
After mouths of experimenting and working closely with a company I can now assist you with a replacement unit on an exchange unit basis.
If you send me photos of your roof I know if your unit can be used as an exchange unit.
The price of my units are R 10 000 .
That is less than half what a new unit will cost you.
It does not include freight costs to any destination in S A.
I have a unit ready for you if you need it.
This message applies to any person looking for an exchange sunroof section, I can assist you.
I am based in Cape Town but can send a unit to any place in the country.

Re: Rust in the sunroof frame
Does anybody have a step-by-step guide of how to remove the glass form the car?
The fix seems quite easy, if you're a panel beater - with a careful hand....
Thanks again to all !

Re: Rust in the sunroof frame
Hi guys, first time post for me, same problem with my 2007 3.2 DID shorty. Research so far confirms new price of R18-21k. I am about to remove roof and attempt a repair, I see from the photos that the rubber seal is attached to the glass, is that correct, my rubber seal appears to have come loose around the front edge and maybe what cause the water ingress problem.
Some questions for anybody with hands on experience of this problem.
is there a sequence for disassembly?
is reassembly just the reverse of disassembly.
any hidden issues to be aware of during disassembly like hidden bolts, inaccessible screws etc?
any tricks to make the job easier,
is this a two man job or can one man remove it.
greatly appreciate any pointers or advice from experienced DIYers.
thanks guys.
cobbers.
2007 3.2 DiD shorty GLX -- <150k kms
2010 3.2 DiD LWB GLS, with OME raised suspension, just replaced all shocks with Australian version, seems good match, leather seats, 2nd 40 lt tank, fridge wiring and 2nd battery, nudge bar, frontrunner full length roof rack. <160k kms. average 10.5lt/100km fuel consumption around town and dirt roads around home. Goodyears wrangers tyres giving excellent even wear performance,

Re: Rust in the sunroof frame
After reading about the Pajero sunroof rust problem I checked the sunroof on my 2011 low mileage Gen 4 SWB and found two smallish rust bubbles on the frame - nothing serious I thought. Luckily I had it checked at a good panel-beater. He removed the sunroof glass with its frame to do the fix. When removing the rubber seal that fits on the lip around the frame we discovered that most of the lip has started to rust. Luckily mostly surface rust and not too badly pitted at this stage. If this was left a little longer the damage would have been terminal. That panelbeater showed me that it is simply a flawed design. Rainwater or moisture gets trapped on the rim of the frame with nowhere to go.
It is very easy to remove the sunroof glass with its frame. You simply undo the 6 torx bolts that attach the frame to the carrier mechanism and then lift the glass with its frame out. Then it is easy to remove the sealing rubber to inspect, clean, repair and paint the lip of the frame.
My advice. Go and have a good look at your sunroof or even better, remove it to do a proper inspection
- even if you have a new Pajero. If discovered early it is an easy and inexpensive fix.
I attach of photo of the rust on my frame. This was not visible before removing the rubber seal. Apologies - the quality of the cellphone photo is not the best.
