Hi Folks, Hoping someone has come across this before and can help me out.
My NL LWB 3.5 SOHC pajero has recently had the engine rebuilt (was getting a bit smokey, noisey and most of the welch plugs leaked). Anyway, soon after I discovered that the remote keyless entry no longer worked. I have replaced the battery. This didn't help.
I reprogrammed the 2 keyless remotes but this didn't help either. Interestingly, while reregistering the remotes, the car is in diagnostic mode. In this mode the door locks go on and off (once the remote button has been pressed 3 times) to indicate that the remotes are being registered. However, once out of diagnostic mode, the remotes do absolutely nothing.
So, I'm sure that the remotes are in good condition because the system seems to react when being programmed. The central locking mechanism works fine as I have tested this with the key manually.
Does anyone know what else could be causing this problem.
Does anyone know what exactly stores the IDs of the remote units? Is it the ECU?
I suspect that somehow, despite the registration process indicating that the remotes have been registered, that they have in fact not been registered at all.
Any help would be welcome.

I have exactly the same problem - but six years down the line.
