Upper & Lower Control arm bushes

I know I am coming into this pretty late but I have just joined this forum and have also got this problem. Took my 2002 3.2DID for alignment and was told the controll arm bushes are shot. Got the fright of my life when I was quoted R 1752 each for the controll arm with bushes. You can't buy the bushes seperately. That is before labour and Vat. I phoned around and found a company called Polyparts in CT who relign the bushes with poly something. Apparently lasts longer than the rubber lining that it comes standard with. R 150 each. The down side is they need the bush so your vehicle will be on jacks for a day or 2 while they relign the bush. I haven't had it done yet but it is going in on monday to a mate mechanic of mine to be stripped off and done. If anyone has any advice on this issue I would be glad to hear it.

Had my upper control arms recommisioned beginning of last week. Problem solved.

Phoned around quite a bit and had no bad reports on recommisioning of the bushes(sp?). Even Bernard from BB Motors said they did a good job, and I'll never have to replace those bushes for the upper control arms again. I did point out that never is a very long time.

Will replace the lower control arm bushes as soon as they start giving problems.

Since this post has surfaced again and I made some comments on here earlier. My feedback on my knocking sound is as follow.

After taking it to several specialists that all gave different opinions I took it to the dealers and told them to knock away at the problem until they solve it. They were convinced that it was the stabiliser bar links that caused the noise and I authorised the replacement as the rubbers was looking a bit tatty, but it turned out that it was not this . In the end the mechanics traced it down to the Ironman front shocks that did not fit properly and the bushes was shot AGAIN after less than 3000km after IM replaced the bushes free of charge when the first set only had about 5000km on. In the end Ironman basically indicated that they have recieved a number of comebacks on the Pajero and Fortuner shocks and they offered me a full refund. The fitter also assisted in getting me Old Man Emu shocks at a very decent price. Problem solved, the knocking rattle that I had is a thing of the past and my faith in Ironman has taken a bit of a beating.

Yip, I have also gone through two sets of Ironman bushes (in 80000 km or so) and they are shot again. I am not the greatest Ironman fan either...

RBI now makes the upper and lower bushes for the Pajero Gen3. I got some from a supplier in Dubai.

Also, there is a company called Powerflex that makes a PU bush set of the Pajero - bloody expensive though. http://www.powerflex.co.uk/products/Sho ... 612/1.html

They seem to have a distributor in Joburg and Cape Town. If anyone does try them, do let me know.

Secondly, will it cause more damage if I only fit the lower control arm bushes but not the upper control arm bushes?

Hello Skillie, got a 2003 pajero 3200DID and i need to change the bushes on the lower control arm. please let me know where i can get the bushes because the agent only got the arms with bushes.

please tell me - the bushes for the lower control arms - can they be bought without having to buy the control arms - have just been to the mechanic - he told me that the lower control arm bushes are to be replaced and only the complete control arm is being sold, not the bushes.
Please help with info.

Firstly, Gerry, sorry for not responding, I didn't see your post up to now.

If I remember correctly I ended up refurbishing the lower control up bushes...I would phone Freek from Mitspro just to be sure.

I was not sure if refurbing was the best option but so far I had no incidents and are happy that the bushes is working as they should.

I've a Gen 2, that also was"more worth it" to change upper control arms, as the ball joints & bushes were worn. Less labour was spent, with replacement of completely new upper control arms, but at a reasonable price, through AutoQuip. here in CT.

Why don't you just give a call to these Alternative auto parts suppliers / suspension specialists, or as here in CT (First Alignment Centre), to get 2nd / 3rd & even 4th quotes. I've spent over R100 000.00 on my Gen 2, getting it to the reliable standard i'm comfortable with, BUT, I see many workshops charge HUGELY varying prices........for the same work.

eg - landed up paying twice for a starter recon = R3000 odd
2nd person supplying a similar "Reconditioned starter = R500.00

I've been in the auto parts procurement game for more than 11 years (in the far past), and still get a shock when I see certain establishments' pricing, for the same items, which are available elsewhere, for much cheaper prices.
I hope you get sorted, at a more satisfactory pricing.
