Ah friggit man.... this frig'n web is driving me crazy.
I fail to get in anywhere, except with my phone on Forum Runner and then I can't get any pic posted.
OK, rant over.
I have a pic of the gap to my wiper, there is no way the wheel will lift more than 20mm.
Moving the wheel further back to clear the wiper defeats the object

I have digged a bit on Google. The wheel lifter as listed in the first post actually move the wheel back a bit as it is a plate bolted to the original bracket and then lift about 50mm. I have seen photos where it clears the wiper but some people report chafing on spare wheel rim due to sparewheel cover "cage" bar.
I have also seen a photo of a guy that just lifted the standard bracket by about 20mm using spacer/lifter bars between spare bracket and door which also seem like a brilliant idea.

Ps cant find the posts now on my phone but will try and post them later.

Sorry folks - new house, renovations and new baby on he way is making for very little free time
I'd be happy to test out the plate... But most likely only in Jan or late December if the family hasn't increased by 1 yet.
I will contact Cloyd in Dec to arrange a time.

Hey Masker.
We hope that all will go well with your lovely wife and the little one on the way.
I'll keep an eye on this thread.
On the side: I made some calls today for a quote to get air bags installed at the rear. Looks like about R3k installed and all.
Cheers
Roelf

Roelf & CATS,
Discussion with Roelf in the mountains: It did seem as if the wiper arm may touch the spare wheel. This is a problem that should be easy to solve BUT unfortunately my "test bed" is a Gen 3 and does not have that problem. I need a Gen 4 "test bed" to solve the interference problem. Another problem we discussed was that the wheel cover will have to be modified slightly - NB slightly. Once again the need for a test bed.

Hi Guys, I had a plate made for me by a local tool and die workshop, it works perfectly, I have lifted my spare 60 mm without interfering with the wiper. The plate is 12 mm thick which is an overkill one can have it done using 6 or 8 mm plate. the wheel cover is really tight and requires a bit of brute force to get the holing bolts bak in place. But it does the job well. If someone can tell me how to post pics from my I pad I will add them to this post.

Hi Brian,
Thanks. Yip, a thick plate will clear the wiper.
I can also not manage to post pictures from my phone on ForumRunner

Re: Lifting spare wheel on Gen 4(NS/BK) Pajero-towing
OK. So since I now have a gen4 I made work of this and convinced Uys from Stofpad4x4 products (http://stofpad4x4.co.za/ )to build one and put them on his stocklist. We were busy with the template for the last few weeks and it is finaly ready!!!!
Works beautifully. Lifts the sparewheel to enable easy hook up of trailer or caravan and enabling you to tow on higher level which is particularly important when towing off-road type trailer to get it to run more level.
Also enable you to still be able to open the rear door while having something hooked up!!! THUMBS UP!!
Before
After
Basically the sparewheel bottom is now level with the door.
Sparewheel cover still fit with standard size tyre. No cutting required but you need to drill 1 hole on the original steel bracket that the wheel bolt onto. Fitment takes about 30min.
Word of warning to anyone that want to make this themselves. To get the correct thread countersink bolts was almost impossible. It really is not worth the effort. Just get the ready made product from Stofpad 4x4.

Pajero gen4 drivers can thank me later

Cats, I do not agree with your statement. There are many ways to skin a cat - not you being skinned. My bracket works 100%, all the parts were sourced without any problem and I am willing to bet much cheaper to make. Incidentally, how much did Stoffies charge you?

If you have the know how and resources I am sure it can be done easily and for not too much money. You obviously do, I don't. I have 10 thumbs and count beans for a living. I dont mind anybody making money out of something they sell. It is a free market.
I got my plate at a discounted price as I invested time and research in it to help him develop it. He lives reasonably close to me so it worked out easily enough but still took about 4 visits to measure, weld, fit, get correct bolt thread and size and scrap first template and fit new one after some lessons learned.
I looked at buying a similar plate from overseas ready made and there they sell for around R1000 (converted) with all the bolts etc. Obviously excluding freight and customs costs. With the price of steel plus the bolts and powdercoating plus a bit of profit I believe Stofpad will also sell it for around R1000? I think it is a reasonable price, but if you can get it done yourself at less then great. I don't have shares in his business but to get a ready made off the shelf available custom item for the Pajero comunity, available online, is a win in my books.
