It looks very strong but heavy. What is your projected/expected weight?

Re: DIY Off-Road Caravan
The project is coming along very nicely. I like your design criteria of having a sturdy unit as wide and high as the pajero and I think without the conventional side overhang of commercial units sideways body roll have been lessened. I cant help wondering about end weight with the amount of steel you are putting in to the structure, granted it will be as strong as an ox, but what about the center of gravity? The higher that is the more the unit will want to roll and at the end of the day you want to tow the unit without remaining in 3rd gear
With what do you intend covering the unit and what do you intend on using for furniture construction?
Marius you hit the post button just befoe I could

Re: DIY Off-Road Caravan
Hi Guys
Thanks for the interest.
According to the my computer where i did the design on it will have a dry weight of +- 580kg. I know it looks like a lot of steel. But I designed it, that at the critical areas I used 2,3,and 4mm (A-Frame) steel. For most of the other braising 1,6mm.
The outside covering will be done with ,9 mm Stucco sheeting (Aluminium) between the steel 25mm Styrofoam (For Isolation) and inside will be 3 mm Marine ply wood.
With the two water tanks (136lt) bellow the floor and just above the axel and Fridge and batteries on floor level there is hardly any weight on top.
The wheels is actualy 80 mm wider than the unit it self. But still run in my tracks. Remember my Pajero runs with the
33 x12.5 x 15
You will note there is little more steel on the right then on the left? The reason is for the Kitchen cupboards that will be on the left. This is to try and get the weight distribution evenly.
I hope I answered your questions and please feel free to ask.
