Intoducing myself

Tue Feb 20, 2018 3:17 pm

A bit late after being on here for some time - keep meaning to do it but... well eventually.

My name is Ray Shaw

My birthday is in July and past retirement age but still working!

I live in Roodepoort South Africa

My home language is English

I am still an Industrial Designer

I am Married

I do not belong to any other clubs or forums - but visit several other forums occasionally

I have a 2008 SWB 3.2 DiD which was purchased new and now has 286000 trouble free kms on the clock! (I am touching my head!)

The car looks fairly standard from the outside but has:
Bilstein shocks giving a approx 30mm lift (with new longer progressive rear coils)
Stofpad bashplate
Front Runner rack with lots of brackets
Under bonnet built in compressor
Split charging system
Twin batteries
In cabin 220v
Drop-in rear bed storage organiser

Not much else I need except maybe the gearbox bashplate and two more Cooper S/T Maxx tyres!

Too old for another 4 x 4 but having driven only 4 x 4s for the last 30 odd years - the Pajero is THE best all rounder! And (touching my head again) the most reliable - nearly 300K kms and nothing but a couple engine mounts and rear suspension bushes!!

Series 2 Land Rover (yes, that old)
Isuzu Trooper (the very first one)
Toyota Hilux
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ80 staitonwagon
Land Rover Discovery 1
Land Rover Discovery 2 facelift

Kgalagadi, Baviaanskloof (towing a Namib all the way through!), Karoo

Actually not quite sure! Maybe everywhere! Over the years we have driven (and towed, and pushed) through Swaziland, Lesotho, Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Malawi and Mozambique - some of these several times. Actually the favourite destination would be to do everything all over again!

Game viewing, birdwatching, photography and nowadays gentle Hiking

Welcome Ray! I'm also from Roodepoort, so if you see black gen4 with a lot of bush paint (scratches) hoot and wave. What colour is yours?
If you can feel the grass between your toe's, your flying too low!

Hi Henri,
Thanx for the welcome. the answer is mostly yes -with a few problems here and there! But this has been over the last 30 odd years! A trip to Moremi in the 1980's was very different than today!
Cheers, ray
