Hi All
May I suggest that there be a sticky or general page in the technical library for oils and lubricants:
I have some question re compatible oils and would appreciate any feedback.
Engine oil is 15/40 and generally the preferred oil is Caltex Delo
Auto box is Mitsubishi Dia Queen or the new equivalent
Diff Oil front and rear - Hypoid gear oil GL-5 or higher. Should this be standard SAE 90 or LSX SAE 90 for limited slip diff
OR, can I use Axle EPX 80W-90??

Only use a GL5 spec oil in the front and rear diffs, and GL4 for the transfer case. Agree with DELO400 oil for engine, and DiaQueen auto tranny oil.
Re: Pajero 3.2 oils and lubricants
PLEASE DO NOT USE OIL WITH FRICTION MODIFIERS (like LSX SAE 90) for a gen3 Pajero factory fitted with a limited slip rear differential. It has a Torsen (TORque SENsing) differential that works with very clever worm gears (like the Audi R8), not clutch packs like most typical Limited slip diff's in 4x4's.Bernard wrote:Hi All

Thanks for this information as I have been looking for confirmation for a while now as I need to change my oil in the front and rear diffs, and the transfer case.

Re: Pajero 3.2 oils and lubricants
I eventually found the time and courage to do the transfer case plus front and back differentials.
I bought some 12mm clear plastic pipe but although it fits the filler holes perfectly is too tight. I ended up putting a short length of 10mm to allow air to escape while filling.
Make sure you can get the filler nut off first before removing the drain plug. Mine were all overtightened by the agents.
Got my wife to pour the oils in and it went OK and we took a bit longer than others claim on the forum around 2H30 but I assume it is because I am a bit of a perfectionist.
Both front and back diffs took the correct amount of oil but the transfer case only took 2lt. I then dropped the car off the jacks and managed to get another approximately 300ml in afterwards.
Thanks for all the advise and glad I did the job myself in the end as now I have peace of mind that the oils have been changed and there was no water in the diffs.

Valvoline GL-5 80W-90 : Differentials
Valvoline GL-4 75W-90 Fully synthetic : Transfer case (manufacturer's spec is GL-4 75W-85)
Castrol Magnatec 5W-40 Fully synthetic : Engine
I still need to do the auto transmission and will use DiaQueen as specified by the manufacturer.
I purchased a GROZ SG-10 suction gun from Highveld Garage Equipment in Montana, Pretoria, as it took forever to change the diffs and transfer case oils. (Squeezing those bottles to get the oil out with a plastic tube attached is a pain to say the least). I have not used the gun but hope it will be of help in the future.
Any views on my choice of lubricants?
These are lubricants I used recently on Gen 4 DiD SWB:

Re: Pajero 3.2 oils and lubricants
Hi All
I am doing oil changes on my Gen 3.
Just want to confirm on the specific oils please.
The Delo 400 15W40 available from Makro, is it the correct one. I checked on the Caltex site and they have a Delo 400, Delo 400LE and Gold. Which is the correct one ?
On the gearbox I have read the best to be the DiaQueen. Is this only available from the agents as I am quoted around R 520.00 per 5L ? Any substitute ?
Diff and transfer case oils ? Any suggestions or just dealer oils, again very expensive (R87 / 500ml x 10 & R 107.00 / 500ml x 6 ?
Would appreciate your input.
Thanks
Arnold

Delo 400 15w40 is mother's milk for your Di-D.
DiaQueen the same for your auto transmission.

Re: Pajero 3.2 oils and lubricants
The better Delo is the more expensive one, not the Gold if I remember correctly.
