I fully agree with Afdak. There is no fix for this problem apart from a major suspension makeover. This can be expensive as no fix is proven or guaranteed. I also found it to the same on both the short and long wheel base models which I’ve taken to the kalahari.
Apparently the bouncing can be controlled by the shocks if it is correctly specced. But you always sacrifice features which might be more valuable.
I would still love to open the dash sometime and put small motorcycle tubes into it. Inflating it should absorb “some” of the vibrations.
Whilst traveling the Kgalagadi I observed the steering column also vibrating wildly. So this is a suspension problem. I’ve posted about this before.
In the meantime I’ve learned to live with it

I wonder of we can develop a bush kit to mount the subframe on a bushing as per ladder frame cars.
Cant be that hard. Biggest hurdle is checking what else needs to move if you space the subframe from the monocoque by about 13mm.
Will the rear trailing arm cause geometry havoc? The front end of the trailing arm os attached to the monocoque, not the subframe
Mmmm. Food for thought.

I'm sure there are hundreds of Pajero owners waiting for positive response on 4ePikanini's suggestion.

A massive thanks to IanH in Cape Town for fixing our dash. We discovered IanH after 9 years of rattles and vibrations, and nearly switching to Toyota
We tested it on some very corrugated roads during the Dec holidays and we're delighted that things are so much quieter. The improvement is huge and I highly recommend this fix if you can get someone to do it for you.
IanH's workmanship is top notch and his conversation matches up to it.

So we sat and debated why he felt the dash needed the fix, even though it was already installed.
We looked at the shocks and realized that they were the original Mitsubishi shocks, the car is now 13 years old and has 176,000km on the clock. The previous owner apparently only used it for off-road trips to Lesotho and Moz as a “holiday” vehicle.
My deduction is that the suspension needs to be checked for wear and tear, bushes and shocks especially. I’m not aware of any shocks that will last this long without compromising the ride somewhat.
Also, he works at Ford in Pretoria and gets to drive brand new Rangers and Everests daily so he was comparing brand new vehicles to a 13 year old used vehicle.
In summary, any old car will have rattles and a poor ride compared to a new one so we all need to be aware of this difference due to the deterioration of the suspension components, over time. Rubber age hardens for its entire life so it is something that needs to be considered when buying an older car (bushes, tyres, shock seals etc).

I met a guy today who came to me to have his dashboard stabilized with the brackets. He bought the 2007 LWB a few months ago from a guy who had already had the dashboard brackets installed by myself and the rest of the loose dash tightened up properly (I checked my own workmanship).awie wrote:I'm sure there are hundreds of Pajero owners waiting for positive response on 4ePikanini's suggestion.

Hi there
Please could you advise the thickness and depth of the foam placed between the dash and windscreen. Many thanks and have a great day.

Hi... I dont think I have a major issue but what does it cost?KurtG wrote: ↑Mon Feb 06, 2017 6:37 pmI can fix it permanently in 5min if you would like to have the cable ties installed, we also do brackets that stabilize the whole centre section and prevents movement. Let me know if you're interested.Klause wrote:My 2013 DID,c also had the dash rattle. I took the dash board apart and re tighten/ glue every loose wire and bracket! No change
After a lot of sweat and tears I found out that it was the plastic where the windscreen and dashboard come together that rub against each other specially when outside air temp is cold! (plastic aircon ducting rub against lower dashboard surface and windscreen)
I pressed a piece of black foam in between the width/length of the dashboard and the windscreen deep enough in so that you can not see it, and that was the end of the irritating rattle noise
