The topics and subject matters in the forum remind me a little bit of the SANLAM Insurance Ad's final sentence : ".......What could go wrong....":
To drive the Pajero gives me (and I am sure many others too) tremendous pleasure , on-and off-road , and I cannot see myself driving any other.
However when reading through ALL THE AILMENTS and BREAK-DOWNS as well as all the MYSTERIOUS MALFUNCTIONS and BREAKAGES I sometimes wonder whether this is really the "undestructible" and "super-reliable" machine it is made out to be.
But still, I enjoy driving this vehicle with pleasure and when my thoughts flash back to all the small and large mishaps befalling Pajero owners the SANLAM Ad's words crop up : ...What could go wrong?..."
Best thing to put these thoughts aside is CARRY ON DRIVING AND ENJOYING THE PAJERO....

Re: PAJERO THOUGHTS
Oberlix,
They are super reliable and only ask that you treat them with respect and provide them with the best service possible - all oil changes on time (distance) and the best affordable, new filters (the best available), brake fluid and water changed on time and the rest of the jobs that one calls TLC. Get yourself a good service manual, study it and do your own servicing where possible - that way you know its done and with the necessary TLC.

Re: PAJERO THOUGHTS
Hi Cloyd
Thanks for replying.
Yes, I do all these things but due to my age I am not so flexible anymore and don' t have the space (complex) but I have managed to find a very good mechanic whom I trust and who also is very knowledgeable about diesels and turbos
For really difficult or complex PAJERO hick-ups I unfortunately must consult a Mitsu dealership.
My wife says that I love the Pajero more than her (which is not true because I don't sleep with or in it and I also don't talk to it (yet), neither do I stroke it tenderly and lovingly.........(and it hasn't a name !)....
But as you so rightly point out,, service as per book is an absolute pre-requisite for a happy and long living Pajero and in fact for every vehicle, bur iparticularely so for a Turbo vehicle.

Oberlix,
You are "only" 4 years my senior - I only stopped flying a month ago. I still do all the services myself. Keeps my busy and out of my wife's hair. We also camp and use a Desert Wolf camper. Pending on the job, I can offer work space.

Re: PAJERO THOUGHTS
Hi Cloyd
It might be only 4 years but I was not and am not "car mechanical" inclined at all But I like to drive them !
I also do not have the tools and the desire to squirm underneath the car .We also live in a complex and although we have a double garage there is not really much space. One space is occupied by the Pajero (JUST FITS) and the other houses our Conqueror Supra 1 which we purchased in July with the aim of going off road camping however my wife picked up cancer in August and has finished her chemo last month and starts now with 32 days radiation, We hope that we can use our trailer at one stage towards the 2./3. Quarter . Maybe it will work out.
I have spent the last 10 weeks or so to get accustomed with the trailer (set - up and checking the electrics, water , canvas , etc etc.
We also go often into the bush (Lodges, Kruger, Waterberg etc. because we like the bush and of course the wild life.
Where do you live ?
I managed to find a decent Englishman who owns a workshop near by and also does Turbos and so far he has kept my first (3.2 SWB) and present (3.2 LWB) in good nick.

Re: PAJERO THOUGHTS
Hi Obelix
The issues raised on the forum might be misconstrued that the Pajero is not reliable. But remember that you don't go to the doctor when you are healthy! As our wheels get older, there are some aches and pains (just like us) but does not mean that its giving up the ghost. I have done 100 of thousands in my Pajeros and think they are the most reliable vehicles ever. Love em!

Hi Everyone
Dont get me wrong.....I love the Pajero to bits but I just gave my inner thoughts when reading ALL THE GRIPES, MALFUNCTIONS and PROBLEMS.
I would not swop the Pajero for any other make.

Re: PAJERO THOUGHTS
People forget that a gen4 pajero can be up to 13 years old.
They are reliable but as with any car, needs looking after, and wear items replaced.
