Kurt, is that stainless steel or is it mild steel?gerbek1 wrote:The actual slider is a 75/50/3.5 tube right under the chassis at about the same height as the diesel tank protector and the round tube is 50x3.0 just to protect the bodywork on side slopes etc.
Mild steel. Material for everything was about R800 excluding welding rods, flapper disks and paint etc. All bought from NJR Steel in Strydom Park, great service.

Not sure if I have posted this before, but thought while we are on the rockslider topic... Here are mine and they are well tried and tested. Battering rams if you ask me. My advice on fastening any rocksliders would be to use the weakest bolts you can find. Sounds crazy but if you think about it rather break a bolt or two and tie the slider on the roofrack or something than tear your mounts. A lot of people use 10.8 bolts and that's not a good plan rather use 4.8.
Made from 50 and 32mm galv water pipe, JIS fittings and the mounts are 50x25x2mm rectangle tube. Primed and stonechipped. just have to get some stainless checkered plate for the steps. Used aluminium but that didn't last long.Looks good, just needs a lick or two of paint!!Spikv wrote:Not sure if I have posted this before, but thought while we are on the rockslider topic... This looks like it would solve the problem of the early shape Gen3's with their low hanging tupper-ware just behind the wheels, if you drove off a ledge or high step it would catch and rip off... Ask me how I know!

The pictures i have of them painted don't show them nicely because they are stone chip black.
That is exactly why I made them that way is to protect the plastics. I had alot of people tell me I will get hung up with them but so far so good.
Ritteling I used the same mounts that you would use for the factory side steps.

Installed 25mm aluminium spacers on my Pajero this past weekend, acquired from Stofpad 4x4. Great service from Uys btw... always willing to answer questions, and there were many
All that I had to do after the install was take the van in for alignment, to get the camber adjusted.
Thus far the on road ride has been good, not wallowy or top heavy... but then again i don't corner at 120km/h.
Will be hitting the trails soon.

I installed a Stofpad bash-plate 1 month a go and then proceeded to drive into a rock
I'm sure I lost some ground clearance.
Also did a service today - and I'm wondering if its worth it with all the schlep to do it my self. It seems to take me a nights worth of reading a full day and then I still need to dispose of the oil.
And then I worry for the next week if everything is fine.
It should have been only a oil change, but since returning from Lesotho it felt sluggish so I opened the diesel filter and the filter element looked blackish. The current filter is only 10 000km old though - what should a 10k km old filter look like ?

If it's a diesel then I would change the diesel filter every 10,000km. Its a small price to pay for peace of mind ...
