What I meant to say is: there is no need to add 2-stroke oil to petrol/diesel to either make an engine last longer or generate any other positive/negative effects...

Given all the "empirical" proof you refer to, neither the automotive industry nor the petro-chemistry ever advertised the positive influence of 2-stroke oil to boost their sales on this product ... ;)....what a "missed opportunity".

not all manufacturers wish their vehicles to last forever ;) -

they have to comply strict rules and regulations. We have free reign and the possibility is definitely there that we sometimes know better than the manufacturer. 8-)

All said TIC as the debate rages. ;)

Re: Two stroke oil
I will try it on my 13 years old Pajero 3,5V6 with CAT.
I'm just not sure if synthetic or mineral 2 stroke oil has to be for this use.

Re: Two stroke oil
2 stroke bikes suffer with the exhuast carboning up and need to be decarboned on a regular basis. too much 2 stroke lowers the octane rating of petrol making your car engine ping.

Re: Two stroke oil
I can use "Shell 100 octane unleaded petrol" for this case, my car has 3,5V6 143kW engine - requirement is for 95 octane petrol.
For this case octane rating couldn't be problem. Just what kind of 2 stroke oil I've to use? Mineral, synthetic, some specification... we have plenty marks in the store, for high RPM engines, for old - low RPM bikes, for lawnmower/graas-cutter...
Do you have any recommendation?
Re: Two stroke oil
Use any well known brand mineral 2-stroke oil (not synthetic, which does not mix so easily with diesel).
"Low Ash" is what you look for.
2 stroke bikes suffer with the exhuast carboning up and need to be decarboned on a regular basis.
2-stroke engines use 2SO at high dilution ratios.
At the recommended 1:200 dilution, 2SO in fact burns away the carbon risidues in the combustion chamber and outlet tract - fact.

Short and sweet of the use of 2SO:
If you don't use it, or don't believe in it, that's fine, but don't knock it!
I have not heard of ONE engine failure which could be directly attributed to the use of 2SO in the fuel.

On the other hand (Dêrrin) the thousands of positive reports from all over the world can't ALL be due to the plasebo effect, can it?

Re: Two stroke oil
OK Guys,

You've won me over, I'm getting 20L/100Km at the moment (mostly town driving) my engine sounds like a diesel when I start it up, but when it heats up enough, the sound (mostly goes away)

What I am looking for is 1) Improved Fuel consumption (which I believe I will get.
2) A less noisy engine (if possible)

So, the million dollar question is this, (since I'm in S.A. I can probably buy the brand you're using)
........................What Brand / spec 2 stroke should I use. (and will a bottle / tank (90L) do the trick?

Thanks

Re: Two stroke oil
I've been using two stroke with my polo (96kw TDI) for +-2 years (one treatment every 5 tanks) and on the pajero (one treatment on every tank for 10 tanks and 5 tanks off) for roughly 3 months. The polo has 125k km on and i've had no problems with the injectors.

I had the pajero's injectors serviced today at bosch @ R400 a pop and the word from bosch is that the injectors are in good nick. The orings and filters were shot, but that is expected after 175k km. Since I had all the obvious faults on the pajero fixed my fuel consumption increased by roughly 2km/l. Hopefully it will inprove even more as we realised today that a vacuum pipe on the air intake had a leak and thus by passing the air fuel sensor causing the car to run lean at higher revs.

With this sorted, lets hope for the best.

Will update after the weekend in regards with fuel consumption.

PS: I use sasol corwa which is a low ash mineral oil.
