How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
i'm very intrested to know, when will mitsubishi will upgrade the 3.3 DiD engine, or announce a new model engine.

in today's market 200hp for 3.2 diesel is a bit shameful, you can see engines with 240 260 even 300 hp , with 3 liters or even 2.5l.

and the noise, well, more refinement is needed, those are the only "problems" i can point out. other than that, the engine is superb, in fuel efficiency and legendary reliability.

if it wasn't for them, pajero would have been much, much more popular.(which i only care, because it will make the pajero better and more resaleable+lot's of spare parts.)

without trouble you to much, can any of you dear members might have heard something about a new engine?
:o)

thank you.

nOmad,

Welcome here.

I am not sure when the next upgrade is due after the recent upgrades. What I am sure is that the engines are great with adequate power and good economy. My concern is when 4x4's become over-sophisticated making it impossible to repair it in the bush, and I am afraid, that is where the Prado and LR finds themselves now.

Hope you hsve fun here.

Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
The latest gen4 3.2 Di-D engines make 140kw and 441NM. That is not to be sneezed at.

And if you want to race you can go for the thirsty, but racy, 3.8 petrol that kicks out 184kw and 329NM.

My 3.2 is quiet enough for me (although it is running on snake oil  )

Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
thank you anton, good to be here. 8-)

i must confess that i love the pajero, it is very cost effective, and well build 4x4. but, it can be better.

all you need is a stronger engine, but we established it's not gonna happen soon.
a different way to improve it, is to reduce it's weight. so you can get more HP per weight. let's say 2000 kilo's max, insted of the 2120, much stronger, with the same tech+better fuel economy. win win situation?

well, wishful thinking, but still...

sorry if i'm OT but, did you guys tried to shed some weight off it.?

anyway, i wish you guys great health and enjoyable offroad ride.

take care.
Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
Mitsubishi is renowned for the long lives of their engines.

Although the new Mitsu V6 TD engine has been under development for quite a while (it actually completed a Dakar!), I can't see any reason why the Di-D 3.2 needs to be replaced.

It is still the measure by which SUV TD engines are measured.
The power output is possibly not as high on paper as the new Tds, but (like the Isuzu 280 DT engine) the power delivery from low revs put it ahead of most, even those with claimed higher output.

The noise is due to direct injection, and has nothing to do with refinement. It is a diesel!

It is still in the top league as far as the balance of power and economy goes.

The reliability is legendary.

Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
4epajero, thank you for your insightful post.

and the whole purpose of my "it can be better\improved" post's, is not by any way to insinuate mitsubishi engines are inferiors, to tell you the truth i find mitsu engines, to be near perfection, compared to other makers.(i.e vw)
i saw many VW cars, mostly passat 05 06. become very noisy, almost like a truck, sometimes even worse. and i never understood how can it be.
what does it tell you? either VW owners doesn't believe in maintenance, or VW engines are not built to for the long run.

well all i can say is: long live the king! (pajero) 8-)

thank you all, all the best to you.

Yeah, but she INSISTS to come with

Jokes apart - The stuff you can shed is normally tupperware, which is then replaced by steel. Compare the weight with comparable models, and you will be surprised to see that the Pajero is not that heavy.

In support of Marius' comment about reliability, look here: TOP GUNS and here High Mileage Club (>150000km).

Engine looks the same from the outside to mine 2008. You reckon she's just chipped?

Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
I believe the latest Di-D engines have improved design variable vane turbos, high pressure common rail diesel injection systems and lightened the internal engine components. They may also have fine tuned the engine parameters to add a bit more boost and fuel.

I prefer mitsu's way of doing things (same as VW) - instead of reinventing the wheel they just keep improving on existing great designs.

Re: How long till mitsubishi will upgrade?
Hi

Is the newest 2010 engines not 3.2 DiDc engines where the previous is only DiD, which indicates the common rail as explained by 4ePikanini above?
