Gen 2 Air intake
Good day to all :D

I traced my 3.0 V6's air intake to the side panel and then to the front of the grill. Two things I am curious about:

1. I assume this path is followed to get cooler air away from the engine bay and heat inside the bay. This is a long path with a few bends meaning more obstruction in airflow. Does the benefit of cooler air outweigh the quicker flow of air into the intake?

2. See picture. It seems as if there should be another cup like piece that fit into the air intake to force/catch air into the entrance of the intake. Does any Gen 2 owners still have this extra piece and if so can you post a pic?

Mine looks the same. I was also wondering if there is a fitting that bends to the front. Let me know if you find anything (will do likewise).

I am sure you can make your own little snorkel to fit in there but I don't want to add more bends and longer path. Suppose a standard snorkel is even longer so maybe it does not matter.

Hi Cobvs,

A standard snorkel in my opinion would probably work better(ever so slightly), as although it is slightly longer, your bends seem to be a bit less obstructive, furthermore, you do get a slight bit of air forced into it,
The 2 main points with the snorkel are obvious though, and far outweigh any other pro-and cons connected to a normal intake.
1) Clean air (especially on dust roads)
2) River crossings - even in low water, your std air intake duct is situated in the front, i.e. any type of bow wave created will literally force water into that area.

Cheers
