Ignition Coils - 6G74 Engine
In my short stint as a member of the POCSA this will be the third time I have to ask, but once again I need the advice from our engine fundi's.
This time it is about the 3.5 V6 ignition coils; there are three, one each for two plugs. On my engine one unit is 100%, one is partially functional and the other has totally packed up. (This is probably the origin of the "intermittant cutouts" we experienced on the open road which I wrote about in the "Possible Engine Cutout?" thread on 1st July 2010.)
The problem now is replacement parts. Have tried various Spare Part businesses to no avail and the dealers say they will have to be imported from England! (Thought it was a Jap vehicle/engine!) It appears my engine might be an Jap import as these coils seem to be different from those generally used in SA models (which would explain the problem we experienced to find a waterpump replacement a week or so ago).
Can anybody help? Maybe someone knows about a spare part dealer we haven't tried? The part in question vaguely resembles a small pistol with F-722 12v and the word "Diamond" enscribed on it. Each has a number on it: the one 6024167, the second 6024168 and the third 6024169 (nicely consequtive!). Also printed on each is the phrase "Use with Transistor Ignition"
Hope someone can help.

This is a long shot but worth taking. Try Japan auto parts, Lamsa's stadees psares, Main harding rd Marburg

They are a branch of japan auto importers of these engines, with a bit of luck you might just get what you ne without having to make a trip to joburg

Thanks Henk
We eventually found some and had them couriered down from Mercedes in Gauteng, but thanks, I will definitely explore Japan Auto Parts in Marburg even just for the possibilty of finding a reliable supplier of spares for the future. Would be nice, they are just around the proverbial corner from where I stay.

PS. 200 000km service done & dusted. Replaced cambelt, tensioner pulley, waterpump, ignition coils and spark plugs (platinum tipped), etc. Nice to have the "Brute" back again. Don't know if I'm hiper sensitive but, when stopping at a light and taking out of gear, the idle RPM drops by +-200 momentarily and then builds up again. Is this normal or am I just being paranoid? (Could have been happening in the past without me noticing).
