However, the moment I switch the air-conditioner on, I notice that the temperature rises and I have to top up when the temperature reaches a high level. When I say 'top up' I mean using about 3 - 5 liters of water in the reservoir and the radiator as both are pretty dry. Additionally, my passenger complains about wet feet on her side of the footwell - only when the air-con is on! But at least her feet are always cool and clean in hot weather

I will be doing a complete radiator / cooling system flush this week - should I be looking at anything else - heater matrix, burst pipes, etc?
