You have firmly put me off this job and rather have my mechanic do it. But I don't wonder why they charge a small fortune for the pleasure.

Colin,
WOW, thanks for the detailed description. I probably won't have the balls to tackle a job this big, but it is nice to see what you are paying for. I agree with your view on the spark plugs, and I like the idea of replacing the w/pump.
I wonder how much extra work it would have been to service / replace the lifters?
Great material, thanks again!

Hi Anton
one can buy after market lifters at Alert parts for about R40 a lifter, when i bought my paj about a year ago now my lifters were noisey as hell i tried a number of diffrent oils with no noticable diffrence. I then put engine flush in the engine and drove around for 30 min got home and revved the engine hard a few times it smoked so much i thought i broke something i then drained the oil and replaced the filter and filled up with dello 400 right up to just over the full mark. Its like a new car absolutley silent for 3 months now not sure if this will work for everyone but it did for me. Revving the engine hard with engine flush in is not a good thing to do. My paj had full service history from mitsu but when i looked into the engine with a torch oil filler cap removed i could see lots of crud in the tappet cover area this made me think maybe the oil was not changed as per the service history. Hope this helps

Changing the cam belt is like eating an elephant ....one bite at a time, work meticulously and forget the maak gou part.
I always overfill my oil a bit and since I have done that my lifters have miraculously kept quiet must be something in the petrol

So Colin (or anyone else) - did you ever go the R40 lifter route.
I want to know how reliable they are compared to the ones the dealer sells.

Hi Colin
What a mission How long did it take and do you need any special tools
