Transkei Advice please!
Hi Everyone!
We're heading to the Transkei early in August and I was hoping somebody could help with some tips and info/maps. I've only been there once before but I was 5 years old and didn't own a Pajero  ! We will be staying in the Mpande/Sinangwana area for 10 days to simply relax and do a bit of vissing. Are there any interesting places to visit close by or cool routes that we can do?
I appreciate the advice in advance!!
Re: Transkei Advice please!
First thing to do is get Slingsby's Wild Coast map from http://www.themaps.co.za

Things to put on your list of possible trips:
  • Saturday Night Seafood Extravaganza at Umngazi River Bungalows (booking essential). Go hungry!
The attachment Home_b.jpg is no longer available
  • The red mangrove swamps at Umngazana Mouth
  • fishing at Brazen Head
  • The view from the airfield at Port StJohns
The attachment Port StJohns01b 10_08.jpg is no longer available
  • Picnic/braai at the picnic spot on the northern side of the bay at Mtonga River Mouth (good fishing spots in the area as well)

    Poenskop b 10_08.jpg
  • Fishing at Poenskop, north of Port StJohns
The attachment Poenskop b 10_08.jpg is no longer available
  • If you feel like a longer trip, the Magwa Tea Estate and Magwa & Fraser water falls

I am not aware of any formal/official trails in the area, but if you feel brave, take this tough, but scenic route. preferably don't go alone, and have a good spare ready.

Yes, but not often enough!
I have a very special liking for the Transkei and it's people.
Handle them with due respect and you will enjoy the time there.

PS Umngazi River Bungalows is IMHO one of the best hotels I have been to in SA.

I went to get my Slingsby Wild Coast Map yesterday.....wow! I'm really impressed by all the detail and the amount of effort that went into it....amazing. I've also marked all the spot's that Gerhard mentioned, thanks again Gerhard!

I had my DI-D serviced 3000km's ago. Do you think it's necessary to have it checked before I head off? I bought 5l of Delo Gold as well that I would like to get my Paj running on sooner rather than later.
