Gen3 3.2 Dipstick length?
I overfill my sump by about 8mm but still get the low oil level warning every now and again.

Can I ask you guys with gen3 3.2 engines to measure your dipstick and post up the results here.

I catch vague mentions of a revised dipstick with a green dot on on the net so would like to make sure I have the correct one. That way I can sleep easy and know that the low oil level light is just over sensitive if I have the correct dipstick.

TIA.

Hi Marius

I will measure mine as I also get this on slight uphills and sometimes at around 2000 rpm, if I disengage the clutch and let the vechile revs drop to idle, then the light goes off.

Is this simmilar to what you are getting?

Re: Gen3 3.2 Dipstick length?
I only get it on uphills or long bends.

The oil in the head only drains via the timing chain cavity at the front so on an uphill there can be quite a lot of oil kept in the head around the cams.

Still, I read snippets on the web that there is a revised dipstick.

Will measure mine this weekend and let you know. I VERY seldom get the low oil level light, maybe twice a year and ussualy when it is cold.

Re: Gen3 3.2 Dipstick length?
Measured my 2004 DID just now as follows:
from the flange edge that stops the shaft from moving further down I have:
7mm to first o-ring
21mm to second o-ring
672mm to top chip-out
690mm to bottom chip-out
708mm to the bottom tip.
I too run about 8mm overfilled but very seldom get the low-level light. When I do it is always up a hill, at some 2000rpm and below normal temp. It does not worry me.
I note the numbers 209 are stamped on the flat of the stick near the top. No green spot that I can see.

Thanks. Will measure tomorrow and post findings.

I welcome others to do the same. The more to compare the better.

Here you go, pictures of the measurements.
For what it's worth I have never had a low oil light on my Paj. Hopefully it stays that way :D

Aha. Just what I thought.

Those with the green dot allows an extra 14mm of sump oil to get the max mark.

The older ones have notches and the newer ones have holes drilled in them.

Old one looks like this 4m40 one

Thanx guys. I'm going to adjust my oil level accordingly.

Re: Gen3 3.2 Dipstick length?
I can confirm that mine is as per Bigwill and not Biggish. Ie I have the shorter one with the chip and not holes and slightly shorter. Mine also says 209 and there is no green dot.

Re: Gen3 3.2 Dipstick length?
Hi guys,

Mine has the numbers "144" stamped onto it - you can see this on one of the pics if you zoom in.
For what it's worth my Gen3 GLX is a 2007 model so it seems this is one of the bugs that was ironed out over the years. As I said previously, I have never had a low oil light in over 100,000km of happy travels.

Cheers
Bruce
