Thanks for all the advice.
Another symptom I forgot to mention is a lumpy idle on starting after the car stands for a few days without running. Like a misfire, which takes a few minutes to clear.

I had the same oil "conslurption" on my 97 Paj 3.5 and when I did my 100 000km service , on 104000km,(yeah right 100 000km on a 97
, bought the car in Springs GP 
) I changed to Delo 400 and I did'nt need to put top-up oil in yet. Now currently on 106000km so up to now it helped on my car, and I had the valve stem seals replaced as well.
