Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
What I actually want to know is if the max torque will be avalible at a lower rev after the chip has been fitted and that a formula will not tell me :(

I noticed you guys mention some "CRD" chip - is that a diffrent chip or the name of the fitment centre? Sorry - never heard of them - only know SAC and Dastek's uni-chip.
Lastly - Are all chips created equally or which is the best to fit to a 3.5 petrol?

Thanks
Freshmen,

AFAIK SAC uses chips manufatcured by Dastek.

BTW: My SAC chip is for sale. I bought it new from SAC and only had it about 6 months when my Gen2.5 3.5V6 was totalled. SAC tested it afterwards and and said it was just fine, no problems - they even wanted to trade me for a chip for my 3.2DID, but I did not wan tot go that route. PM if you are interested.

EDIT: After my chip, the Pajero pulled better at lower rpms, thus the power was available from lower down. Just keep in mind, they also do a small conversion on your airbox for better airflow.

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
Hi Guys,
Yes I did the chip and free flow exhaust thing. I did not fiddle with the air filter as I believe the standard filter is designed like that for a reason.
At the time of this report I still had the intake manifold issue with the butterfly valve leaking but albeit here is the reults of it then.
Manifold is fixed now and I will have new redone motor as well as a complete recleaned throttle body when the next tune comes up.
Torque
RPM run 1 run 2 run 3
1500 228 248.7 249.3
2000 232.5 255.4 255.8
3000 233.9 260.6 260.3
4000 222.7 244 244.5
5500 193.8 211 211.9

Power (KW)
run 1 run 2 run 3
2000 38.5 42 42.1
3000 58.9 64.7 64.8
4000 79 88 87.9
5000 94 103 103.2
5500 94 98 98.4
My fuel consumption on open road was +- 9 km/l and in town a steady 7 km/l and with a fully laden off road caravan from Secunda to Nylstroom and back including 50 km off road on Serendipity for weekend was 5.6km/l
I think I will achieve even better after all fixes especially manifold which played the MAF up a bit . My vehicle is also an automatic.
Job done by RBTS Racing in Kempton Park with a Dastek Chip.
I also have a Unichip which I will be installing next once new engine is run in.

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
Hi guys,

I had Dastek Ver Q chip fitted this morning with the following results:

Nm
3000 307.5 318.7 3.64%
4000 316.6 334.3 5.59%
5000 288.6 298.3 3.36%
5500 264.2 273.2 3.40%

Kw
3000 74.3 77 3.63%
4000 102 107.7 5.58%
5000 116.2 120.1 3.35%
5500 117 121 3.41%

Are these typical results? As per Dastek's website they gaurantee 15%...

Let me know what you guys got as a comparison.

Cheers

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
15% is at the very far end of the scale for naturally aspirated engines (turbos are easy as you can up the boost)

Generally a NA engine will see the best improvements with chipping/tuning when paired with a free flow exhaust, and good service (fresh oil and filters).

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
I'm with you on that. But then they must not make promises they cannot deliver...rather under promise and over-deliver.

See here: http://www.tuneserv.co.za/

Look it is still early days - I have yet to take it on the open road and also hook the trailer behind.
I'm not expecting the performance of a supercar for such a small money outlay, but the figure of 15% did play tricks on my mind which is normal I guess.
Will see how she performs as time goes by.

Just wanted to make sure my improvement was "normal" as per other members who had chips fitted.

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
Freshman.

Just see where your biggest gains in power and torque are. If you look at that and I'd argue that your chip has been a bit of waste of money. To have gains of 5% at 4000 - 4500 revs is in a band which you rarely use. I never hit those revs unless I'm in the dunes.

If you give me 8-10% at 2000-3500 then you'd be talking!

Re: Chip 3.5 V6 Pajero?
Macjohnw,
I have chipped and free flowed mine a while back. I have posted the results before but hre goes again.
I have not changed the air filter and as mentioned I think as well it will give trouble further on.
My car was done with a leaking manifold and after my motor is now re-done I will go through the whole process again.
The chip was/is Dastek but I have a Unichip as well.
In short with some faults such a very dirty throttle body and faulty intake manifold here some specs:
KW before at 2000 rpm 38.5 and after run 3- 42.1kw
Kw before at 5500 rpm 90 and after run3 -103.2kw
Some torque readings
Nm before at 2000 rpm - 228nm and after run 3 -249.3
Nm before at 5500 rpm - 222.7 and after run 3 - 244.5
Highest torque was achieved at 4000 rpm at 260.3
Highest Kw was achieved at 5000 rpm at 103.2
Fuel consumtion tested over about 400 km full tank to full tank at a steady 120 km/h with front aircon on was 9.2 km/l
In town naturalyy a bit heavier with 7.0 km/l constant. These 3.5"s will always be heavy in town and mine is an auto.
In tow over a distance of 800 km with a fully laden Off Road Caravan was 5.6 km/l including 50 km of off road track at Serendipity.
Dyno was done at RBTS Racing in Kempton Park.
Hope this helps

That would be a bit difficult on a multi valve engine, by nature these brutes like to rev high. It would be possible if you bolted one of the low boost superchargers on but cost would be prohibitive
