I had a look at all of the links posted on this website and could not locate the correct wiring and or manuals, all seems to be the new CK Pajero..
I wonder if somebody could help me with some pictures or even copies of a service manual for this particular vehicle ... bubble fender 1999 3500 V6.
2 years ago it went into a Mitsu garage here in Sandton, for a spluttering motor. R 24k later it was eventually discovered it was the fuel pump, actual cause of spluttering engine. Took delivery of the vehicle and drove it for 300km, if so much, large clacking noise in the engine. Turned out bearings on the crank. Why when it came back from a service... But prove it... impossible and the dealer just shook and washed its hands. I reckon they forgot to put oil in the motor and drove it, realised this and then made the problem mine.
Did not have the money then to rebuild motor, they quoted me R43k. I left it and brought the car home and had the motor rebuild by their engineering shop, which I have used in the past.
I had the Pajero motor back now for 3 months, but because there is no rush and winter was fairly cold, I left it. Started 2 weeks ago with re-fitting the motor, Same dealer quoted 18 hours re-fitting of motor at R550 per hour.
Motor however is in, bolted and most of the pipes and plugs connected at the back end. Front end still needs the radiator, fans etc. No here lies the problem.
1) The dealer removed the engine and with it disconnected the plugs.
2) I am sometimes stoopid, but I am not able to find some of the plugs coming from the ECU which is bolted on top of the motor. I need help.
3) Richard, replaced 2 x sensors with wires coming from the front of the motor, I reckon it is timing sensors, and although the plugs are on top of the motor, these wires are too short to join up with their respective plugs. Did Mitsubishi perhaps have a junction wire between the plugs at the ECU and the sensors or did they supply Richard with the incorrect sensors, where we needed longer leads.
4) Then there are about 5 plugs that I can not match to anywhere.
6) There is also a pipe (large diameter) that exits out the firewall side from the motor that has a small diameter pipe facing the right side of the engine that does not have a matching pipe anywhere??
Now did
1) The dealer, true to its lousy attitude, misplaced some of the leads and wiring harness or am I really stoopid. Like they did with the fanbelts and a few of the hoses, but of course they will deny everything.
2) Or does these plugs just sit out in the open.... It does not look like it, because the insides are fairly clean... Open plugs wold be dirty after 285000 km.
Please could anybody help me with this information or pictures or a manual.
I miss the Pajero, not talking about the Mrs. She is now on my case.
Johann,
May I suggest to borrow another 3.5 from somebody and copy from that motor.
I did the same thing and a totall starnger in my town had no problem borrowing me his vehicle as a copy car .
Understandably he would be worried about you stripping something. Offer him a few beers and nice comfy chair whilst you copy or if you are in Centurion go see Mitspro for help I am sure they will help you.
The pipes at the back can be confusing and therefore you should make sure it is connected correctly. It is mostly your water heater pipes but it is a mission getting to them with the engine in already.

To both of you, Anton and paw_by_paw.
I will try both option, have downloaded the manuals and will make head or tail from it, or I will take a camera and do it that way.
Luckily I have connected all the pipes, except that one particular one, since I can actually get to it.
The other problem I have. This boerseun has some big hands, and the Pajero was developed by a Japanese person with small hands.
But prestic, long extensions, knuckle joints and sockets work fairly well....

You should try working on a Renault. Makes those spaces in a Pajero look like the gaps between planets.JohannK wrote:This boerseun has some big hands, and the Pajero was developed by a Japanese person with small hands. But prestic, long extensions, knuckle joints and sockets work fairly well....
Simon Bloomer
I went around to a secondhand car dealer today and took some pictures for specifically the piping at the back. I really were a little stoopid. Totally forgot about the oil breather into the air intake
The air intake pipe is still in the back.
However, the camshaft and crankshaft sensor wires is definitely incorrect. I will just have to cut these wires, join a piece in to get to the ECU.
Now that leaves me with 3 x plugs that I could not see on this particular model. I am going to see a 1999 model on Thursday, maybe there are some wiring that is different.
If it goes like this, it will run over the weekend....

Ya well no fine,
Everything is connected, bolted, filled, except for the bonnet.
I now have a problem,
1) She does not start. Starter turning, motor turning, oil pressure light goes out.
2) Fuel smell within the pipe from the air cleaner to the fuel injection inlet.
3) I removed the cover where the coils (3 coils, 2 per cylinder) and removed a lead to test for spark. Spark is there. On all three right and bank cylinders. Not sure how to test the left hand bank spark.
Please help........
I am now frustrated as hell....

Just further on the previous post..
The yellow engine light on the dash also goes out about 3 seconds into the starter being turned. It can mean one of 2 things... Something is wrong or Nothing is wrong...

Johan,
I have read previously about a 3.5 starting problems and it was linked to the either cam angle or crank angle sensor.
I do not know if you have removed the cam belt but installing is a precise job and that could also lead to problems.
If there is spark and plugs connected correctly it should start.
I will forward you the correct installation method( posted by a member on this forum a while back)if send me your mail .
Regards

Just a quick update....
Had the dealer service manager here in the week to check with the computer........
Well it is now at the dealership after some arrangement between the engineers and the dealer...
When asked about it, the response was......It is a long story.....
The suspicion is.. The camshafts on the right bank of cylinders have been changed around, although marked, they look exactly the same.. That will cause the single backfire into the inlet manifold when we start the motor... Or so the service manager claims.
We will see later in the week.
