Re: Re-con vs Re-build
see (smell) if your glasses mist up at idle when the engine has been run for more than 30 minutes (when cold the condensation in combustion chamber and exhaust will blow out but after 30min driving all of that should be out.

If it still mists up after the engine has run more than 30 minutes then you probably have a leaking headgasket.

Are you using coolant?

Not a drop of coolant.
Rad was re-done 3 weeks ago after it overheated up Sani. They also did a gas test for the headgasket which came out fine.

Re: Re-con vs Re-build
I have the 3.5 V6 blister, just did a full recon...big ends, mains, radiator, water pump, oil pump and replaced all sensors.Ive bought all the parts(want to know whats going into my machine)and paid the garage for the rest....The complete job cost me around R14000.00 and i must say,im realy happy. Before starting the re-con i phoned around and the cheapest jap motor i could find was R21000.00 ,with only a 2 month qaurantee.

Willem that is not bad. But how long did it take and did you have to wait long for the parts.
Plus did you put new rings, pistons, re-sleeve etc as well?

Freshman, didnt need to re-sleave,since the block only did around 190 000 kilo and had almost no ridge,we just had to do a industrial hone and skim.Yes,i did change the rings, bearings and everthing that goes with it,also redone tops and radiator.I must say ,im very happy my mechanic did a decent job.pajero's running like new.
