3.5 V6 20,000km service requirement
I had a big service done about 18,000km ago. I seem to have lost site of the fact that the Pajero should already have been serviced again. I have been thinking about servicing it myself. The last car I serviced myself was my golf 21 years ago.

Does anyone have the service manual to guide me through it. I imagine it is only the basics which need to be done.
The maintenance schedule says:
breaker points on distributor, I have no idea what this is. Anyone can help with some guidence.
The spark plugs were replaced with platinum plugs, which I am told lasts 100,000km, is this correct?

Any help and advice would be welcome.

Re: 3.5 V6 20,000km service requirement
Hi Gerald,
The 3.5 does not have a distibuter and points.
It has coils on the right hand side standing in front of the engine that transfers spark to the other side.
I would check the following though:
Oil filter replace and oil,
Check coolant level and ensure correct antifreeze is in the system. I use VW spec supplied by Golfwagen the pink one.
Check all belts correct tension and wear.
Maybe do a pressure test to check for leaks.
Auto ? Check the ATF fluid level ther is a cold mark and a hot mark on the dipstick and do a general check on suspension parts ball joints , links etc .
Check your front Cv boots for wear as these are very expensive to replace.
Hope this helps

Re: 3.5 V6 20,000km service requirement
Thanks for the pointers. I said to a friend that I did not think the 3.5 had a distributor, so I have no idea what is referred to. ok sorted. I had a massive service done some 18,000 ago. I also last week had the Oil drained from the gearbox and refilled. I will just check levels in case. oil and filter will do. what oil do you use, any top grade multi will probably do. The CVs in the front i better check as i heared a noise when i put it in 4x4 and go faster than 60km. it has gone away. sounded like a thin sheet of metal rubbing against another piece of metal. i will check cvs.
I was told to replace/check the oil in the tranfer box. any idea how to do that. i thought it is lubricated from the gearbox. i have an autobox.
