Top chain guide inspection / replacement on 3.2did
Hi,

Who has inspected or replaced their top chain guide on their 3.2 did?

This is starting to nag at my conscience as my 3.2 has just hit 150, 000 kms.

This procedure seems more common in Australia, but perhaps they just talk about it more on their forum? Could they perhaps have more issues with these guides?

I'd be interested to hear how common this issue / inspection / replacement is in South Africa?

Not that the feedback should stop me from inspecting / replacing mine...it may ease the conscience though... ;)

Definately the same issue in South Africa although. I have not heard of any chain failures over here, but the top chain guide is definately an issue as they wear completely down and cannot do their intended job anymore.

Mine was metal on metal when I checked and replaced mine. Cant recall the kilos then but it was just before 200 000km if I remember correctly.

Mine when it was replaced!

Procedure is easy enough. Take tappet cover off and replace. 4epikanini has a nice youtube vid of him doing his if I recall correctly.

correct

what it doesn't show is the chain reset procedure which I did with my valve stem seals as I only realised it then.

If your guide is still intact it will not be necessary to reset the tensioner, provided you keep the chain tension and don't hear the tensioner give an extra click.

Mine needed resetting as my guide was completely worn away so installing the guide added axtra tension on the chain which could in time damage the chain and/or guide and/or tensioner.

Thanks guys, I'm going to order a new guide tomorrow.

Not sure I'll attempt the replacement myself (with my 10 thumbs and all...), but I'll sleep better at night when it's done...

Cheers!

Get an oil pressure sensor as well. They are cheap and also fail at that mileage.
