Very interesting.
I was hoping their next release wold be the V6 diesel but let's hope that comes soon.

It seems to have been around for a while. From the first link:
MMC had started to export passenger cars equipped with this next-generation low-compression-ratio diesel engine to Europe on May 2010.
Don't be bluffed by the low compression ratio - I suspect they boost it by more than 2 bar!

The 4n14 (as used in overseas Outlander) is as (if not more impressive)!

At 130 kW and 380Nm, it has higher output than my Di-D, from 2.3 litres!

The thing that impresses, is that it still runs out of boost at 14.9:1 ratio so the thermal efficiency must be fantastic in order for the compression stroke to generate enough heat for the diesel to ignite when injected.
