I recently discovered that a rodent had a bit of a party in my bonnet. (either that or someone with a metal file tried to sabotage my car)
In the pics attached, you will see a metal pipe right at the top of the engine bay, running behind the engine. Its been eaten straight through the outer core to what seems to be an inner core (slightly different color). And across quite a long stretch!
What is this pipe, and how worried should I be?
(btw, the cable tie was added after discovering this - its for my 16mm electrical cable installed by frontrunner)

Looks like a rat got hold of it.
Rats can destroy wiring and rubber hoses.
Here is a solution:
Soak a rag in Jeye's Fluid.
Spread it over the engine when left in the garage.
Refresh Jeye's Fluid when the smell gets less.
Put out rat poison in any case!

I think this was a once off incident - i.e. its probably not where I stay, since none of my other cars have had an issue over the last 4 years, and since I noticed this a month ago, it has not gotten worse.
It probably happened over December while we were in Baviaanskloof or in the Gamkakloof.
But definitely going to follow the advice. Also heard that I should take a small sock or cloth pocket, put rat poison in it, and attach it in some corner in the engine bay.
BUT, my real question is - what is that steel tube at the back? And if its been eaten to the inner core, should I replace it??

Aircon pipe?
I am just guessing and bumping your thread as I would also like to know what that pipe is.
