Not sure about the heading but my math tells me the length of the trail should be directly proportional to the distance from the center point as the change of angle from the center point will be constant for all the pie pieces of the circle.
A slow moving satellite would have made an interesting squibble on the pic..... or a passing planet like venus might have made a nice bendy line on it.

The length of the startrail is proportional to it's "distance" from the celestial pole.
Marius, I hear you but that kind of thing is hit and miss, and because of the near full moon they wont be bright enough to register. There's a brief description of the image here
