Pajero normal operating temperature
What is the normal operating water temperature for my 2001 Gen3 3.5 SWB Pajero?
Dash gauge was very erratic so an aftermarket gauge was added. This shows temperatures in degrees. The gauge tends to hover around 80 - 90 and sometimes even above 90 degrees. Is that normal or is there a problem. What would the maximum temperature be without damaging my engine?

Am I just paranoid?

Hi Gordon,

My gauge had some issues which was as a result of the green board behind the instrument cluster which was problematic, and this was the cause of some erratic readings, and the symptoms were one minute it would be over red and the next it would be normal.

As far as normal temp, I cannot confirm degrees, but on my gauge, it is halfway and sits there all the time.

Also check that the radiator and basic cooling system checks are done as well, have been a few reports of the collant gelling causing blockages in the radiator, so may need a flush and rodding.

Hope that helps in some way, if you do a search, there are a few posts here on the faulty temp gauge issue.

Cheers

I don't think 80 - 90 deg. is problem, the thermostat only start to open at 88 deg.

Where did you did you install the aftermarket meter sensor? I am also thinking of installing one for peace of mind, my temp. gauge only rise to halfway and stays there whatever the conditions are.
