Re: Removing the Centre Exhaust Box
Marius,

Wont it damage something if you only have 1 box in the exhaust?

I just came from de Graaff in Waverley/Villieria and Johnny quoted me R560 to replace the rear silencer with a freeflow box. According to him the centre box is already a freeflow and does not need replacing.
Give him a call.

Not on a diesel. A straight pipe and a free flow does the same thing - it gives no restriction - hence "free flow"

A "free flow howevere has a silencer as part of it where a straight pipe doesn't, hence why mine is now loud!

This free flow model has a straight through pipe that is perforated to allow sound to be absorbed like this one.

A normal exhaust has resonator chambers and the exhaust design lets the gasses move through a maze of passages which in turn muffles sound, creates back pressure and robs power in certain conditions and rev ranges.

The rear box on the gen3 3.2 Di-D is a free flow. Stick a wire in there and you will notice it goes straight through....

The big center box is not. Mine came out yesterday and I had a look.

From what I have found is that most likely the best performance gain without making it sound like a boy racer is to replace the center box and catalytic converter with a free flow box.
Re: Removing the Centre Exhaust Box
You are right, Supaquick also said that the rear is already a freeflow box. I only need to replace the middle box.

I bow to your superior knowledge, my lord.
Perhaps because mine is a shorty? Although I doubt it. I will check by putting something up its hole

In the SWB the center box is freeflow and the final box is the one to remove, because its not freeflow.

In my Pajero DID SWB I have this setup, no cat, only the original center box and a freeflow in the back.

It makes a good sound and it performes better.
