Re: Exhaust
Hi Cas

How does the drive-ability feel on her since the new exhaust??

I'm seriously considering doing the same, my V6 is just too quiet!!! I also got a price from Dastek to do the chip R2450, but I will definitely have the exhaust done first!!

Where did you have yours installed?? and the biggi how much RRRRRRR????

Now I can hear her guzzling away

Die klank is wonderlik, lekker brul vir 'n ses!
Re: Exhaust
Hi Guys

Just to revive an old thread.

I am looking at doing branches on my Paj, not for performance gains or sound. Purely out of an economical point of view. I have cracks in my manifolds. I have had them welded, but they have cracked on the same spot again, and it cost R 900.00 per side to weld = R 1800.00. New manifolds at the stealers are R 1761.90 for the left and R 2616.16 for the right, no idea as to why the big price differance = R4377.36 excluding fitment.

Noise Boys will fabricate 2.0mm thick branches for both side fitted for R 2800.00...

Am I missing something here? I asked Braam in bellville if they (branches) would melt pipes/wiring due to heat dissapation, he said if the manifolds dont melt wires, why would the branches? I am quite clueless when it come to matters like this. Is there anyone who has branches fitted and has Pro's vs con's?

Nick,

Stealers are normally more expensive on genuine parts, not always but mostly. He is right, if the manifolds did not damage any wires the branches will not either, unless you moved stuff around in there.

The 2mm steel branches sounds good, I would go with them. Branches only really come into their full right when the motor's head has been gas flowed (and a freeflow installed), otherwise they contribute very little to power and consumption.
Re: Exhaust
Okay.

So I had my branches fitted yesterday afternoon and also had the middle silencer box removed for a much smaller and recessed unit as it was very low underneath the car and hooked on many a rock. The box they fitted (which I later found out) was a cowley free flow box...

Pros: The car definitely sounds better at idle and start-up, which was when you heard the cracks in the manifold “breathing”. The car pulls better at 120-140kph, I find myself cruising at 140 – 150 instead of my customary 110-120kph. Still a bargain at R 3450 to have new manifolds (branches) and a smaller box for better ground clearance off road- the car also has a very respectable growl when pushed now.

Cons: The exhaust box (free flow) is quite loud inside the car, it has a loud resonant drone at 120kph which is approx 2500rpm in 5th gear, however if I change down to 4th, it goes away. I think the fuel economy will not change, but that remains to be seen.

Re: Exhaust
I also had the center box replaced with a cowley freeflow unit for the same reason. I also have the same drone, especially at cruising speed and with the car relatively empty. Its driving me nuts! :x I'm considering a rebuild of the entire exhaust, minus the cat and with different silencers.

These exhaust shop guys seems to think there's something wrong with you if you want a quiet exhaust. They want to fit noisy freeflow and I want quiet no-flow. :D
