I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere on the forum, but I sukkel to search for the subject. Anyway, one of these days we will be on a new platform which is quite easy to search......
For the first time I want to change the fuel filter on my Gen 3 but I need some pointers, please.
What is the best and easiest way to do this?
Is it under pressure?
I suppose it must be primed after installation?
Where to buy? Genuine or Midas and what is the part number?
Anything else?
Thanks!
- get a filter from the dealer
- unplug the electrical connector that connects underneath
- unscrew the filter
- pour out the diesel inside it
- remove the bottom part of the filter by unscrewing and transfer it to new filter using the new o-rings supplied.
- pour some fresh diesel into the new filter while holding upright (this step can be skipped if you don't have fresh diesel on hand - DO NOT use the diesel from the old filter!)
- Apply a bit of clean engine oil to the mating rubber seal of the new filter
- screw on new filter and tighten by hand (if you have gorilla strength, don't tighten as much as you can)
- use 10mm spanner on the small nut between the input/output pipes of the filter's flange and loosen it a couple turns
- hand pump the black round thing on top of the filter flange until no bubbles or air come out of that nut opening.
- tighten the 10mm bolt - just snug. Not overliy tight. You are tightening a bolt into soft aluminium
- give the hand pump a few more pumps until hard
- start the car
- hand pump the pump another 10-20 times
Done!
Lots of steps but really easy to do.
