Hi everybody,
I need to replace my shocks on my 2006 3.2DiD SWB and need advice on what shocks I need to consider.
So far I've received the following quotes:
1. Monroe Sensa-Trac Adventure: R4500
2. Monroe Sensa-Trac Adventure: R4250
3. Monroe Rancho Adjustable Shock: R6600
4. Factory Original from Dealer: R5600
Am I barking up the wrong tree here? Are these the ones is should consider when I can't afford Old Man Emu's? The prices seem fair but I was hoping for a bit more choice.
I don't know if any of the other Gen3 SWB owners have a recommendation that can help me here.
Any advice appreciated!
I fitted Monroe's a year ago and cannot complain about the quality. Personally I think it's a better buy than the originals.
I had a 2003 LWB fitted with OME shocks in front. Very nice, soft, comfortable ride, the actual thing that made me fall in love with Pajero. Sold the 2003 Pajero, and bought a 2007 Gen 4 LWB fitted with Monroe adventure shocks(only 6 Months before) and what a horrible experience. 10 000kms later I still cant do a single trip without wishing for new shocks! Unfortunately I cant compare with std shocks, never had a Pajero with those. My friend with the exact same Gen 4 claims that my ride is better than his, which we guess still has the std shocks at 80 000kms(I haven't driven his yet), but for now...I'm saving up for a complete OME kit. It seems there's a good reason you can get shocks for less than half the price of OME!
just a thought!

I just wish there was a more objective way of comparing shocks. Eg. Compression resistance, how easily it heats up, how performance differs cold/hot...sixmaniac wrote:I had a 2003 LWB fitted with OME shocks in front. Just from a business point of view it seems like the marketing budget of OME is much higher than the rest, so it makes sense that they are much more expensive.
I fitted Monroe Gas Magnums to the front of my pajsport about six months back. Agents refused to replace the fronts after stating that it was "within spec" - what spec I dunno
After several months of driving, I can say that the Gas Magnums feel almost exactly like the originals - except it does'nt nosedive under braking like a WWII bomber anymore. For a measly R1320-00, I'm happy...
Thanks Prealin
My pajero sport now turned 100k, was just thinking about shocks.
Spend lots of time on bad roads, been crashing through on worst bits.
Will report back once sorted.

It has now been 6 months since I started to look for new shocks and I'm still struggling to decide what to do.
After getting a few quotes I had my shocks tested by professionals in Stellenbosch. They park your car with both front or rear wheels on a metal plate that moves up and down at various speeds. You then get a print out that measures the travel in the shocks. According to them my original shocks are still in great condition even after 175 000km!
This has made my decision easier financially but also so much harder because my 2006 SWB still feels quite hard on tar and my friends Isuzu KB felt like it had a better ride on the corrugated roads of the West Coast.
So is it a matter of waiting until my shocks go or do I replace them now before they go?
I just received a quote of R8000 to fit EFS shocks but I can't decide if it's worth spending that much particularly as I can't find that much feedback on whether they are that good.
I think, like all of us, I don't want to spend all that money to change the shocks and then find out that my Paj is exactly the same!

Is that shocks only or shocks and uprated coils to give you a +/-50mm lift?NielvV wrote: I just received a quote of R8000 to fit EFS shocks but I can't decide if it's worth spending that much particularly as I can't find that much feedback on whether they are that good.
