Re: Cold start issues again
Having gone through all the advice from the forum members and different "diesel specialist workshops", the winning solution for my vehicle came about when I approached Freek Snr. at MITSPRO in Centurion. He installed an in-line electronic fuel pump between the fuel filter & diesel pump that switches on with the glow plugs. This now over-comes the loss of residual pressure in the pump when cold. Problem sorted & the best part of all is that it didn't cost a fortune. Pump & sundries + Set Timing + labour = R1.2K

Hi,

Also had the classic cold starting issues - also had my fuel pump serviced. No change... Turned out to be glowplugs and their fusable link. Didn't check them initially as they were pretty new but then again my Pajero seems to eat glowplugs for breakfast!

Have your glowplugs, fusable link and relay checked. If you need to replace your glowplugs make sure that your new ones are tested before installed.

Since doing that we've had no more pushing, cranking the battery etc. Happiness is....

Re: Cold start issues again
I've been having a very similar issue with my Gen 2 3.0 Petrol Pajero. I've been told it's very likely the engine coolant temperature sensor. I recently tested it while the vehicle was cold by unplugging the sensor while she was running. As soon as the sensor is unplugged the engine resumes idling perfectly.

I have located the part, however I really hope this works even though the part is under R500.

Any advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

I finally purchased and installed a new coolant temp. sensor and my cold start issues are solved :) Hope this helps someone else.
Re: Cold start issues again
Hi guys,

I drive a 2.8 and had exactly the same problem. I can't remember what the specifics of the problem was but after about 4 visits it was SAC Centurion that sorted it out. I did have to have the diesel pump overhauled and it was 100% after that.

The guy that worked on it is a very tall gentleman ( i think his name is Marius?).

good luck
