DiD Power Loss at Sea Level
During my December holiday trip from Pta to Cape Town, my DiD (auto) started doing some funny things when driving at sea level. The engine performance was really down, and there was a terrible resistance to acceleration from 2000 RPM. It felt like the whole car was vibrating, and there was simply no torque. The fuel consumption also increased by about 30% (under normal legal speed limit driving).

As soon as I came above 600 m altitude, everything appeared to return to normal. Well, almost - there is still a bit of a vibration under acceleration, although significantly less than at sea level.

I couldn't find any similar threads elsewhere, so I'll appreciate any advice.

Only thing I can think of is the barometer....... but my other mind says it's a diesel with a boost controller so altitude is irrelevant.

I know this is a useless post but hopefully sparks an idea from a more knowledgeable person. :lol:

Sounds like a management hiccup. The air density sensor must be faulty or the calibration in that section must be out. I am no diesel fundi but I can not think of anything else that will do that

Something confused the ECU.
You should have taken it to the agents to put on a scanner whilst down there.
Tracing this type of problem without being able to replicate the problem is very difficult.

It is definitely not normal.
