I recently bought a 2002 3.5l V6 Pajero from Japan. I sent it for a major service to see what the knocking feeling was that wa coming fromt the front end/wheels, we thought it might be ball joints but cant seam to isolate where ts coming from.
Please advise on any thoughts on this issue.
Thank you so much.
Check your stabilizer links on the anti roll bar

The ball joints may feel tight, but may be dry - make sure it is well greased.
Are your wheel bearings OK?

I had the same problem with a 2001 model. After replacing the ball joints, lower control arms and steering rack, we found the problem to be a left front shock. The tested the shock, and it was in perfect condition, but had a knock. After I replaced the front shocks, problem was solved.
When does the knocking sound manifest? When the wheel articulates (e.g. Over speed bumps) or under normal level road driving?
I am having the same problem, very frustrating as I have just had ALL the suspension bushes replaced and expected that to do the trick. When I went back to the guy who replaced the bushes, he seemed to think the Shock Absorber was the culprit. Will let you know how I get on!!!
I replaced front shocks and stabiliser links. The knocking sound still occurs when hitting rumble strips, small bumps or rocks on gravel roads.
I will get the ball joints and anti roll bar bushes lubricated and report back.

lubricating is unlikely to eliminate a knock. A knock is play somewhere.
Like 4e said. Check stabiliser link. I had the same issue with my 2005 model.
