V78 wiring
Just had an interesting fault with our Pajero Exceed. Its done around 280,000kms and we sent it in to get a transmission flush and oil change. When my wife went to pick it up she started the engine and it immediately revved high and dropped down to idle before going again. It did this several times and she got the service manager to come out and take a look. He decided it was unfit to drive and they resolved to take a look and see what was wrong. Couple of days later they had found nothing and decided it was fine so she picked it up and went to do some errands. It ran fine for 10 minutes then started playing up and eventually quit on her. She got it started again and but it went into limp mode and she crawled back to the dealer getting abused for her troubles. She had the warning lights going but people are bastards on the road!
Anyway they found eventually that if they moved the main engine loom in the right way they could get it to misbehave in exactly the way it was. The auto sparky then went through the loom and found the wires going to the pump sensors were hard, brittle and one broken. If you touch the wires they are really hard and quite clearly not the right material for that application.
So if you find your Pajero showing signs of this kind, get the sparky to start at the pump and work backwards to the ECU. The offending wires go under a plate and thats where they were broken. Hope this helps someone!
