I developed a weird idle problem this past weekend
It stalls when it goes to idle - either when coasting to a robot or when starting while it's at operating temp.
When it's cold it starts and idles fine. I have let it idle from cold and when it gets to operating temp (took about 20 minutes) it instantly stalls without a shudder.
Trying to restart is unsuccessful unless I apply a little bit of throttle and then it settles into a high idle (approx 1200rpm). If I then select "R" or "D" it selects the gear and the subsequent drop in rpm to 900rpm or so makes it cut out.
It drives fine (except for stalling at idle when up to temp).
I have checked the APS as per Mitsu Manual and that's fine at idle (hot and cold).

Never mind found it.
The throttle butterfly that half closes at operating temp when idling (supposedly it reduces noise but I can't hear a difference) was adjusted poorly and subsequently closed the throttle butterfly too much.
Nice to know I can manually operate it in case of a runaway engine to kill air going in.

I was thinking the Gen1 might have the same issue.....4ePajero wrote:Pics of the components?
There are 2 diaphragms
1. idle diaphragm - gets activated at warm idle to allow less air in - apparently it reduces noise. The vacuum tube can't just be blocked as it throws a CEL.
2. Engine kill diaphragm - it shuts the throttle body completely for a few seconds when the engine is turned off to aid in an instant kill of the engine without the shudder that was a "feature" of older diesels.
The adjustment screw sets how much air is going in at warm idle. Clockwise will allow less air and vice versa.
Hi Marius
My engine is nto shutting off immediately when I turn the key to the off possition but runs on for a short while. How do I stop that? Do I open and clean the bottom engine kill diaphragm as shown in your pics above?

Some parts are just way to electronically controlled! I kinda like working on the old school stuff instead whenever this kind of problem arises! It's easy to fix older vehicles since you just need to take it all apart and put them back together.
looks like it's electronic so in your case you most likely have to take the throttle body off to clean the egr valve.
Well, I have to apologise... I'm such a noob...
If all else fails, read the manual
Got these pics from my service manuals... Seems like I need to remove the top cover to get to them. On holiday now with no tools
Will take the plastic off when back home...
