After 7 years of loving Colt ownership, I bit the bullet and did what I had been aching to do for ages... I bought a Pajero! R60k for her with 230 000kms on the clock and a brand new gearbox. I drove her home and could not wait to give her a run the next morning. Up bright and early, in the forest near my home, I saw white smoke coming out from the bonnet. I killed the engine quickly (luckily) and went to inspect. The battery was on fire!!! After gettng her towed to my indy, it emerged that the gearbox "specialists" had secured the loom to the exhaust manifold when re-fitting the gearbox. The heat had melted the insulation and being a nice steel exhaust, everything was shorting out like mad. After weeks of back and forth arguing about poor workmanship and guarantees I collected my vehicle from them, "fixed". Well, now the problems started. They had AGAIN secured new wires to the manifold, so I stripped out all wiring basically and started over. Then, the 4x4 system wouldnt work, and when I collected her from them, I had noticed the ABS light burning constantly.

I replaced all gearbox switches (I had to drop the gearbox again for this) and discovered that the specialists had fitted BROKEN switches when fitting a new gearbox. WTF... I replaced all 4 wheel speed sensors (direct from china for 67 USD for ALL 4 including shipment), replaced the ABS pump with a used model form the states ($100) and bar one or two MINOR niggles, which I'll post help for in other sections, I am pleased to report she is purring like a kitten and looking GREAT!

Thanks Cats! I've been a member here for awhile, quietly gleaning knowledge. I hope to share my knowledge too, and learn more over time. I actually wanted to message you about the ABS rotor issue you had. Despite all t best efforts, sometimes at low speed I am getting feedback on my brake pedal via the ABS system, but no abs warning light. I know it's abs related, because with abs disabled it never happens. We thought it may be cheap wheel speed sensors, but it's improved with more bleeding of the brake lines, and on a diagnostic tool all sensors are continually reading he same speed, so I suspect the rotor. I recall you had a similar issue. How expensive was a replace rotor, and how did you'd paganism which one was faulty? Thanks in advance

The rotor was actually easy to find once plugged into the MUTT-II tool at the agents while driving and looking at the wheel speed sensors. The one wheel every now and again threw out a different speed compared to the other ones and also took a bit of a dip every now and again. It is also easy to find on the rotor itself by just visibly inspecting, easier on a ramp, look for a broken or bent tooth on the rotor. They are open and not covered so can be done without too much hassle.

Thanks Cats. This may not be my issue then, as the tool shows all speed sensors showing same speeds. My Indy thinks I may have some residual air in the pump itself. The struggle continues... :)
