Hi Guys
What should the fuel consumption be on a 2.8 (4m40)?
Can anyone suggest a good place to have the injectors and pump serviced / calibrated? How much does that go for these days?
My 2.8 over 3 years of tracking:
4x4 = 5.5-7.5 km/l
city = 7-8.5 km/l
open road loaded = 8.5-9 km/l
open read unladen = 9-9.9 km/l
Ave for 42months & 40000km: 8.5km/l

So this is what I got on my 1998 SWB 2.8td :
9.3km/l or 10.75l/100km on a trip of 3760.40km in total.
This is mainly tar driving (open road & suburbs). I tried to keep the speed avg at 100 - 110km/h but on the return leg we pushed through to 120km/h.
Only did about 160km on gravel.
Is 10km/l or more possible?

One can always try
My best was 9.9km/l driving a 400km stretch in convoy at 95kph, lightly laden with camping gear for two.
Its plausible, but practical?

Just came back from 2 trips, mostly on tar. #1 to farm in Lethaba valley, Letsitele. One pax and light load average speed on GPS was 85km/h. Consumption 12km/l
#2 To Jeffreys Bay via the BaviaansKloof. 240km of gravel road with 40 km of 4X4 which took 3 hours to cover. Never exceeded 100km/h on tar. Total distance 2800km at 79km/h ave on GPS. Consumtion between 10 - 12km/l. Pajero 2.8 SWB 244 000km on clock. Best 4x4xfar!!!

@larry007 - according to SWAMBO I'm mad trying to drive at 100km/h and fuel consumption is less important than getting there quickly
@Dirkvs -
what was your total travel time, assuming you stopped very often?
@Dirkvs -

I did a 5k trip in August, up to Namibia through Bots and back home from Springbok. Avg consumption was 10.5km / l this included the all the sand and dirt road driving in Nam.
