Has anyone had a problem with the temp gauge showing high temp readings at low speed or idling ?
I have had it with a mechanic and at silverton radiators and they both reckon that the temp is fine on their test equipment .
It randomly goes up and then 2 minutes later comes back down to normal . The only concern that I have is that it looks like the sensor used is a generic one and may be a different temperature range .
Any feedback would be most welcome .
Gen 3 Pajero is known for a common problem on the pc board where the temp goes erratic on the display. Maybe do a search using the words Pajero erratic temperature on Google.

Yes, there is a little pc board located in the cluster that cause the problem. It is only available from Mitsubishi and when you replace it the odo reading will reset to zero.I had a 3.2 swb doing it before and my 3.8 swb also does it.

It can also be fixed if you know a little about resistors etc apparently.

My Gen 3 Pajero did the same. Silverton checked the inlet and outlet temperatures of the radiator. All were normal dispite the high temperature reading on the dash. Gas test also revealed nothing.
It was this simple fix of resistor number R10 that solved it. The only other trick is to ensure you clip the white cover of the pc board back properly. You must remove the clear shield on the front and hear the clicking sounds. Otherwise you have a sticky speedo.
Just follow the Youtube video, but do the resolder , no need to replace the small (expensive) Pc board behind the white cover

Yes, please resolder it, don't ignore it, as it will get worse with time. I fixed mine, but not before the engine overheated due to a burst T-piece, which I missed due to the erratic temp gauge. Could have saved a ton of money if I had a working temp gauge.
