The exhaust system on my 1996 3500 V6 is driving me nuts. Until recently (2013) the exhaust system was original Mitsubishi equipment, but the smaller front silencer / resonator finally rusted away. So long story short the replacement silencer was doing the job, but over time the car has developed a "rasp" and a few strange sounds that resonate through the header pipes and seem to collect just before the replacement silencer (under the driver's seat). New header pipes have now been built (no difference). A second attempt at the header pipes was made, which moved the "Y" piece further back and at a narrower angle to smooth air flow, but the "rasp" and resonance remains, albeit slightly quieter. The next move is to remove the replacement silencer and insert a straight 50mm pipe to see if the resonance moves further back in the pipe.
Anyone who has been through a similar journey? Your input is appreciated.
