Super excited. Feels like Xmas.
Picked up the engine parts this morning. Some quick Pix before I drop them off at the machinists.

Clutch kit, timing chain kit, big end bearings, main bearings and the pistons.

Arrived at the machinists at 15H10 on Friday to pick up the parts sent in for machining, only to find they close at 14h00 on Fridays.

So the weekend was spent cleaning out the garage and building workbenches.

Anyway, First thing this morning I picked up the bits and was back before 08h00. I had no motivation to do any business today

so I set about inspecting the machining and cleaned the block for painting.

Because the outside of the block had some machining oil on it and it was not 100s clean, I masked off the top of the cylinders with some masking tape. I did this as I did not want to wash the oil off the the nice re-bored cylinders. So I brushed down the outside of the block with PREPSOL degreaser. I also scrubbed the dwell plugs with degreaser as grit and grime had deposited itself in the corners of the plugs. I allowed the degreaser to do it's thing for about 30 minutes. I then hosed down with with the Karcher power washer. After that I blew the water off with the compressor. I then prepped the parts of the engine block I did not want to paint. Then the fun began.

I just could not wait find out how the color scheme would look. So I unwrapped the oil cooler cover and fitted it temporally for a sneak peek.

I was not sure if I should paint the dwell plugs red with the rest of the block, or leave them their natural color. I decided to leave them there natural color as I did not want the paint job to look bland and rushed.

In prepping the engine I applied Vaseline to the dwell plug. When the paint dried, i simply wiped it clean with a rag.

First two pics show the dwell plug on the oil cooler side of the engine.

These two pix show the dwell plugs on the other side of the engine.

I am like a little boy with two wee-wee's today.

I cannot wait to see what the paint color scheme is going to look like so I loosely put some bits together to get a better indication of what the final engine build would look like. I am thinking too much silver. Especially as the turbo, exhaust & inlet manifolds and injector pump is silver.

I was contemplating having the pulleys chromed

. Might be too much bling.

Here is an indication of what my dilemma is.....

I wanted to paint the logo red but it looks like that might not happen as i am thinking painting the cam cover red. Don't know, will sleep on it.

Leaves are green
Wood is brown
Denim is blue
Tappet covers are black, aluminium or chrome

Thank you Andrew. Read your post after i had done this.

I think with all the other silver bits still to be added the red cam cover will look cool. The cam cover is easy to remove so can be changed with minimal fuss later if i don't like it.
