Hey Guys
Is there any benefits in playing with the exhaust in the 3.2DiD?
I was under the Paj the other day and there looks to be a lot of restriction, i enquired at the local powerflow and they said i would need to find out if it has a CAT or a DPE or DPU, i didn't have the car there so they couldn't say...
any removals etc that might improve performance or economy worth doing?
Thanks!!

As I understand the 2005 has a catalytic converter in the exhaust, no DPF(diesel particulate filter) or other pollution reducing aids.
Many ppl swear by removing the cat with a straight pipe and installing a free flow box in place of the large centre silencer box. This reduces exhaust restrictions thus the turbo spool up time, and in turn reducing turbo lag.

Thanks Nick!
Do you know if there are any codes that needed to be turned off after a CAT removal?
I did this change in my old Polo GTi many years back, i think it added more tone then anything but if it is worthwhile i can get it done for very little.
I think I'll start with just the de-cat and then see from there.

The older injector pump diesels (like mine and yours) do not have a lambda sensor(oxygen) in the exhaust, the gen4 common rail motor do have one though.naviuk wrote:Thanks Nick!

To answer your question, it is a straight swap out, no dummy sensors etc.
I am still planning to do mine, soon.

Hey Guys
So I took the Pajero to Powerflow in Durban near the ICC.
They took all of about a hour and some change to pull the cat out etc.
Cost: R450
Time: 1h30min
If you want their details in Durban, drop me a message and when you go ii'll chat to Andre ahead of time to make sure he gives you a good deal
In terms of differences. it's hard to see if the CAT was really blocked or messed up or not, but with 268 000 km on it, I cannot imagine it was very free-flowing. I didn't drive it too far as yet and still far too early to base on consumption but i have noticed the Pajero seems to rev smoother and the engine seems quieter like there is less effort to rev up to that RPM and doing 110 or so feels alot less effort then before. It could all be in my head but will get the Mrs to take it this weekend and see what she says.
