Hi Just got my vehicle (GLX 2004 DiD) back from a service and see that they have overfilled the engine oil. Does anybody know at what point this becomes a problem? ie how much overfill is acceptable?

I'd also like to know... Since I've seen a few folks here filling I think 1mm over the max level to sort out a lifter noise issue.
Then an OT post but also relevant to oil... I'm near my next oil service (about 2 weeks), but the oil level is at the minimum, and I'm going to do some heavy towing over the weekend. Should I top up with new oil (Delo400) before i do the towing? Thus mixing old and new oil... Is it so bad that oil level is at minimum level?

Too too much will cause aeration of the oil and that would be a bad thing.
Too little (or even on the max mark) and the low oil level light will occasionally come on when the engine is cold and you are starting an incline.
Personal gut feel says 3mm above isn't going to stress me.

Most service agents pre-measure the oil quantity from a bulk container and will then hand it to the mech with the required replacement parts. I know that my first Gen3 DiD would have the oil sit about 10mm above the full mark after getting the correct volume of oil. The same goes for my 3.8V6 motors. Don't worry about a little "over fill". Some DiDs (including two of mine) had the "orange oil light syndrome" if not filled to well above the full mark.

Hi Thanks for the responses. Yes i do have the "oil light syndrome" also when it is cold and the level is between the marks. Its at about 10mm above at the moment, as long as that's not going to do any damage i am happy.

The dip stick should have been replaced by Mitsubishi as they are the incorrect length, there was a recall notice to do this but was ignored by most dealers. I had the oil level light come on almost daily when driving up a long incline, 2004 3.2 DID shorty. The dealers replaced the oil level sensor, they thought that this was the problem. The correct level is approx 10mm above the max mark on the old dip stick, this is where it sits every time it comes back from the dealers after having the oil changed. Have not had the light come on since. What also made a difference was changing from 10w40 to fully synt 5w40, do not understand why this would affect the oil level sensor. No lifter noise at cold start either.
Hi, can you offer us a link or reference to the dipstick recall. I think it is vital info in understanding/addressing the oil level light syndrome.
