CATS
I decided to go with a second hand engine from an accident damaged vehicle from Gauteng. Hopefully it will arrive this week.

Why are you unhappy with your engine rebuild?

Re: 3.2 DiD Engine Broken
jis ouens,I am n bietjie confused now,is it a good thing if I only use 10ppm in my 2005 3.2 did, cause from what I read here is that the higher the ppm the better for the engine,am I understanding correctly.Currently I am only using 10ppm and my Pajero has 246000 km on the clock,of which I have put on only about 1500kms?

Re: 3.2 DiD Engine Broken
Witwarm, this is a very complicated debate. The sulphur removal process also removes the waxes that gives original diesel its lubricity. Diesel in that reduced lubricity form will destroy a diesel pump within hours. The oil companies and the engine manufacturers came together and decided on a level of lubricity that both can live with. Oil companies thus add lubricants after having removed it with the sulphur. I have read a few papers (found mostly via links on this forum) on this subject and there is no reason to believe that low sulphur diesel is bad for your pump or injectors. I believe the problem lies in what happens after the diesel leaves the refinery. Low sulphur diesel lubricity has limited capacity to withstand poor transport or storage. Water contamination is surely the biggest culprit in reducing diesel lubricity.

It is about six years since I last owned a diesel car (2006 DiD LWB GLS) and if I were to buy one again I would fit an extra UDF filter and water trap. I will also add 2 Stroke oil with every tank of diesel.

Don't read anything into the fact that I drive a V6..... I had 3 DiDs in a row and really trusted and respected that engine. 2SO and it still failed and yes.... again the no1 piston.

I really feel for you. Please keep us posted...

What was the reason that you switched from the DiD to a V6 in your Gen4??

Re: 3.2 DiD Engine Broken
Ha... long story. I replaced Paj every 2.5 years on average. After 3 DiDs I felt like a change and went chasing after "high performance" all-wheel drive SUVs. Then tripped over a 3.8V6 Shorty with 28k on the clock at a dealer in Cape Town at a really good price. I really enjoyed the car and engine, but the 2-doors "killed" me. Then after the obligatory 2.5 years I went shopping for a LWB DiD, it's the consumption you understand.

Found my current car for R100k less than similar diesel model. The math was easy.

My friend (who is a real Scotsman) just bought one of the last V6 LWB models (2012) also for R100k less than similar diesel model.

Just as note on the side... Dirty diesel can clog an injector as well... We live in SA... Dirty diesel us a reality we must deal with.

I am told Sasol in potch had an incident last year apparently with a dirty diesel on 50ppm.

There are many DiD's on here with much more mileage... So this is definitely not a usual incident.

Interestingly my injectors are in perfect condition. I had them checked out right after the incident and I was told replacing the tips would be an overkill as the spray patern is still perfect.

Eish, then fitting new engine is risky as you haven't found the reason for this happening.

Well, hopefully removing the old engine with all its auxiliary components also means removing the "reason".

@superairborne,

Have you removed / stripped your old engine yet?

I would be particularly interested in seeing pictures of the state of your inlet manifold (throttle side and where it mates to inlet ports on head) before anyone makes any attempt at cleaning same.
